Unusual Travel Idea: International Tourists Biking from Copenhagen to Klampenborg

Rianne Hill Soriano
Copenhagen, Denmark's small but thriving capital, is a leading bicycle city with hundreds of miles of bicycle paths extending through the suburbs, It offers many token bikes and cost-effective rental bikes for both locals and visitors. While free bikes in the city can only be used within specified boundaries, renting a bike for a day and combining it with bike-friendly train rides allows travelers to explore Denmark beyond the city limits.

For a tourist used to cars and taxis, fancying an odd trip into the countryside through biking may seem unusually exciting. Yet interestingly, this is an integral part of the Danes' everyday life. They typically go to school, work, or tour around with their two-wheeled buddies.

Denmark's biking regulations may take a little time of getting used to for tourists experiencing it for the first time in the country, but the efficient system is tourist-friendly and easy to understand. It features a very extensive network of cycle paths mostly with their own signal systems and separate lanes from motor vehicles.

From the Airport to Copenhagen's Northern Suburbs

The Copenhagen Airport, the main international airport serving Copenhagen and the Oresund Region, has easy access to the city and its surrounding suburbs. Travelers can take the train, metro, bus, or motorway during their trips. They can also immerse themselves with the Danish biking culture as they pass through Hellerup, Charlottenlund, then Klampenborg, via a rented bike and taking Copenhagen's S-train network, which allows passengers to take their bikes on any train.

Touring Around Klampenborg

Klampenborg is part of Copenhagen's Northern Suburbs, a green suburban district north of the city. It is known for two things: being a home to most of the wealthy Danes and being a host to many historical and cultural attractions available for both locals and foreigners.

Klampenborg is known for the popular summer destination Bellevue Beach, a place widely known for bathing in the nude. It also features a few spots for non-nude swimming.

Klampenborg is a main gateway to the Deer Garden, a famous forest park distinct for its ancient oak trees. It is located right next to the Klampenborg Station and is connected to the Dyrehavsbakken, a popular amusement park destination in Denmark.

Tourists can also take photos of the facade of the baroque-style Eremitage Hunting Lodge, a palace featuring major collections of French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings and Danish Golden Age and Impressionist masterpieces from the Ordrupgaard Collection.
