Upcoming February 2011 DVD Releases for Valentine's Day: February 1st Release Date
Welcome to the Rileys - This is one of the best upcoming DVD releases of February 2011 for those looking for a very unconventional love story. James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo star as a couple that have drifted apart after the death of their daughter, and Kristen Stewart stars as a runaway/stripper that helps the two come back together by unwittingly (and unwillingly) acting as a surrogate daughter. It might not be the best Valentine's Day movie for everyone, but it could make great inspiration for hopeless couples feeling like they are also drifting apart.
Never Let Me Go - For those looking for a Valentine's Day tearjerker, this is one of the upcoming February 2011 DVD releases that's worth checking out. The movie is based on the acclaimed novel by the same name and features Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan, and Andrew Mulligan as three members of a very special boarding school that form a love triangle as they grow up together. It's a story of love and loss, and, if you're lucky enough to not know the premise, don't read anymore about it and check this one out to make yourself feel better about your own love life.
Upcoming February 2011 DVD Releases for Valentine's Day: February 8th Release Date
Tamara Drewe - This might be one of the best upcoming DVD releases of February 2011 for single gals to enjoy on Valentine's Day so they can live vicariously through Tamara Drewe. Gemma Arteron stars as an ugly duckling-turned-swan newspaper columnist who returns to her hometown and finds herself getting plenty attention from the local men, namely three hotties in the form of a rock star, novelist, and farmer. It's sexy, funny, and full of colorful characters, so gal pals can definitely enjoy watching this one together and daydreaming of being the hit that Tamara Drewe is with the opposite sex.
You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger - And if you want to spend Valentine's Day making your relationship seem better by watching a slew of dysfunctional couples unravel on the small screen, this is one of the best upcoming February 2011 DVD releases for you. Woody Allen's latest features an older man (Anthony Hopkins) that leaves his wife (Gemma Jones) for a fun-loving sex kitten (Lucy Punch), only to find that their relationship loses its punch while his bank account is quickly drained. Meanwhile, his unhappy married daughter (Naomi Watts) begins to express interest in her boss (Antonio Banderas), while her husband (Josh Brolin) starts an affair with a neighbor (Freido Pinto). In short, this is a movie about how bad relationships can be, and how impossible it can be to fill that void we're always trying to stuff another human being in. It will either make you feel better about your own relationship or make you start questioning it, so be sure to give this one a little thought before you tackle it with your significant other on Valentine's Day.
The Romantics - Here's one of the best upcoming DVD releases of February for guys trying to keep the wedding thoughts away on Valentine's Day. Sure the story is about a couple (Anna Paquin and Josh Duhamel) getting married, but since things get complicated when the maid of honor (Katie Holmes) just can't get over her former fling with the groom, it might keep the wedding plans at bay. Malin Akerman, Jeremy Strong, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody, Rebecca Lawrence, and Dianna Agron compose the rest of the cast of characters that attend the wedding. Just be forewarned: this is a very "talky" movie, so some might find it pretty snooze-worthy.
Life As We Know It - And here's what might be one of the most popular upcoming DVD releases of February for Valentine's Day as the kind of romcom that so many ladies love. Katherine Heigl stars as a gal that gets stuck in a very sticky situation when her pal dies and leaves her in charge of her goddaughter. To make matters worse, the goddaughter is also left under the care of a guy that she went on a disastrous first date with (Josh Duhamel). So can the two make it work? (You've got to love the love stories that turn bad situations into fairy tales.) Sure it might be predictable, but at least Christina Hendricks is in it.
For Colored Girls - And here's one of the upcoming DVD releases of February 2011 for those looking for a movie that takes a look at all aspects of relationships, from the good to the bad. Well, actually this one takes more of a look at the bad with spousal abuse, rape, and teen pregnancy. So if you're looking for a Valentine's Day movie that makes you glad that you haven't tied your fate to another soul in some way, you might want to check this film full of tragic tales out.
It's Kind of a Funny Story - This is one of the best upcoming DVD releases of February 2011 for the younger crowd looking for something fun to watch on Valentine's Day, especially the young experiencing the wonder of their first dysfunctional feelings of love. The love here is found in a mental hospital occupied by Zach Galifianakis, who becomes a friend/teacher to a 16-year-old boy (Keir Gilchrist) looking for an escape from the pressures of teen life. He finds it partly in his new bud and in one of his love interests, a teen cutter (Emma Roberts). So if you're looking for kind of a weird Valentine's Day movie, you might want to check this one out.
So the upcoming DVD releases of February 2011 coming your way seem to be mostly a mix of the neurotic, screwed up, and sad. Happy Valentine's Day!
