Many of the festivals are in remembrance of our rich historical background. There are several Native American festivals around the state, as Indiana was once the home to one of the biggest Native tribes this side of the Mississippi. Then we have alots of festivals that honor the culture of the pioneers who came before us....the Germans, the Irish, the Dutch and the French.
This is just a short list of some of the soon to be up-coming festivals around the state you do not want to miss!
March is time for the National Maple Syrup Festival in the rolling landscape of Southern Indiana. It takes place on the 1st and 2nd weekends in Medora, Indiana. There activities, demonstrations, live music, and a variety of other fun to do things, and of course.... Pancakes with real maple syrup all day long. Check out the link below for more information.
In May, there is the Fox Island Sol Fest, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This are 2 day's of music, and nature fun for the whole family. May 2nd and 3rd is the target date. Check the link below for more information and contacts.
If you do not feel like music for 2 days, well...go fly a kite! The Kite and Canines Festival is in Valparaiso, Indiana that same weekend of May 2nd. There will be kite-building, kite flying, food, and activies for our 4-legged friends too. More information on this, will come at a later date.
May 8th and 9th are 2 days of pure rock and roll! That's when the Muscatatuck River Music Festival, in North Vernon Indiana is. They plan on lots of activites as well as loads of music played. The bands will be some of the best in the state. Ticket's are soon to be on sale, check out the link for more information.
Last, but not least for now....if you like big trucks, mixed in with a little dirt and a whole lot of loud roars from the engines, you will want to head North this coming Memorial Day Weekend, May 29th to the 31st for the 2009 Off-Road Truck and Tractor Nationals, in LaPorte Indiana. We went to one of these a couple year's ago, and I'll tell you, it's loud.....it's dirty, and it's great! Check the link below for more information.
