Goblin (Syfy) - Sunday September 12, 2010 at 9:00 p.m. ET - This is one of the best upcoming Halloween TV specials because it's actually set during the howl-iday, but you better bet this Syfy original is just as bad as the clever way I just changed up the word "holiday". Still, it can be fun to watch this campy flick about a cloaked figure that goes trick or treating for a baby dinner on Halloween if you enjoying riffing the network's many low-budget "horror" movies.
America Haunts (The Travel Channel) - Tuesday September 14, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. ET - Looking for a fun haunted house to visit for Halloween? Then this is one of the upcoming TV specials you've got to see. The Travel Channel's series of specials take a look at some of America's best haunted houses, giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what makes them scare so well. Plus the show might give you a few ideas for scaring trick or treaters off your own lawn.
Bones: Mummy in the Maze (TNT) - Tuesday September 14, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. ET - This Halloween-themed episode of 'Bones' is one of the upcoming TV specials here that might give parents a real scare, so beware! When the mummified remains of two teen girls are found around Halloween and another girl goes missing, it looks like a serial killer might be on the loose. So can Booth and Brennan track him down before he further terrorizes the teens of the town?
My Name is Earl: Little Bad Voodoo Brother (TBS) - Friday September 17, 2010 at 12:00 a.m. ET - It's a Halloween night full of funny frights when Earl tries to throw a Halloween party for the kids, while poor Randy is stuck with Catalina's voodoo-obsessed nephew. It's definitely one of the most hilarious upcoming Halloween TV specials here, so don't miss it this time around.
Freaks and Geeks: Tricks and Treats (IFC) - Friday September 17, 2010 at 4:15 p.m. ET - Here's one of the upcoming TV specials here that captures the teen spirit of Halloween: the awkwardness of trick or treating when you're too old to do so and the joy of vandalism.
NCIS: Murder 2.0 (USA) - Friday September 17, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. ET - No, Tosh doesn't get murdered here, but it is about a killer using the internet to leave clues about who he's going to attack next around Halloween.
Roseanne: Trick or Treat (TV Land) - Saturday September 18, 2010 at 12:00 a.m. ET - Roseanne passes herself off as a guy for Halloween and mingles with some manly men. It's the most believable of all the upcoming Halloween TV specials on this list.
Medium: Bite Me (Lifetime) - Tuesday September 21, 2010 at 1:30 a.m. ET - This is one of the most original upcoming TV specials here, as Allison's dreams get her cast in a horror movie and the show's cast is inserted into scenes from 1968's 'Night of the Living Dead'.
America Haunts 2 (The Travel Channel) - Tuesday September 21, 2010 at 11:00 p.m. ET - Check out a few more of America's spookiest places in hopes that you'll find a haunted house near you in another of The Travel Channel's many upcoming Halloween TV specials.
Supernatural: It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester (TNT) - Wednesday September 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. ET - Can Castiel stop a witch from summoning a demon with the help of a special angel? Forget upcoming TV specials; this whole series is made for Halloween.
Sharktopus (Syfy) - Saturday September 25, 2010 at 9:00 p.m. ET - And here's one of the most anticipated upcoming Halloween TV specials of the year! Okay, it may not be set during Halloween or have anything to do with the holiday, but this campy flick about a half-octopus, half-shark beast on a killing rampage will get you in the mood for a whole month of watching your favorite bad horror movies for Halloween (where are the MST3K crew when you need them?).
Also, don't miss new episodes of a Syfy series perfect for getting you in the mood for some Halloween haunting, 'Ghost Hunters', at 9:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday nights during September.
I know just about all of the upcoming Halloween TV specials for September 2010 here are only reruns, but they'll help get you ready for the real fun in October, which will be loaded with great fall TV, horror movies, and Halloween-themed episodes of your favorite shows (here's a preview of the frights you'll have to look forward to during one of the best months for TV).
