Upcoming Racing Events in Augusta, Ga

Leslie Reese, Nutritional Educator
Many areas hold various running events, primarily to raise money for a particular cause. Some participate to support the cause, some for race times and a challenge, while some even do it for both reasons. Running groups are a great way to get information about local runs in your area. Two running groups in the Augusta, Ga area are the Augusta Striders and the CSRA Walk/Jog/Run Group on Meetup.

Augusta, Georgia is home to many such races and there are too many to list. Here are three upcoming races in the area to give you a taste of running and causes supported in Augusta, Georgia.

Heart and Sole 5k

This year marks the 5th annual Heart and Sole 5k. This event will be held March 5th in Augusta, GA and benefits the MCGHealth Children's Medical Center Heart Program. The funds allow medical equipment to be updated, lectures to build on current knowledge, and research to be performed. Registration can be done online and 5k begins at 9am on March 5th. For more information about the race, check out the Heart and Sole website.

MICA 10k Trail Run/5k Walk

The Military Intelligence Corps Association sponsors this annual event. This event will be held March 12th in Fort Gordon, GA and supports the organizations activities as well as the Fisher House. The Fisher House is a non-profit organization that provides temporary lodging as a home-away-from-home for active duty, veterans, and families during a medical crisis. Registration can be done online and the 10k race begins at 8am and the 5k walk starts at 8:05am. For more information about the race, check out the MICA website.

Miles4Melanoma 5k

This year is the 2nd annual Miles4Melanoma 5k Run/Walk. This event will be held April 23rd in Augusta, GA and raises money for the Melanoma Research Foundation. For more information about the race, check out the Miles4Melanoma website.

So, do you like to run? Whatever the reason, getting involved with a local race is usually for a good cause. Even if it is not a cause that you would normally support, it is a great opportunity to beat your best time and win one for your health. Raise money for a good cause, beat your best time, and/or meet others with similar interest.
