Upcoming Small Cars in India in 2010

There is a small car favourism in India. In fact, this inclination is a result of various factors. The first and the foremost reason is that small cars are fuel efficient compared to middle-sized and luxury cars. Moreover, these cars come at a reasonable price for the ever-growing Indian middle class. Another reason for small cars being huge hits in India is they can vie through the small and congested roads and lanes of India. The Indian car market will grow much bigger next year with a numerous small car launches. Here are small cars that will enter the Indian car market in 2010.

Ford Figo

The Ford Figo was unveiled in India on 23rd September. The Figo is Ford's attempt to secure its foothold in the Indian car market. The Figo is a 4-door hatchback that will carry either a 1200cc engine petrol or a 1.4-litre diesel under its sculpted bonnet. Figo is an Italian word meaning "cool" and it aptly defines the car with its trendy looks. The Figo will get a spacious interior and will compete against the Fiat Grande Punto, Hyundai i20, Skoda Fabia, Honda Jazz and Maruti Suzuki Ritz. The Ford Figo will be launched in March 2010.

Volkswagen Polo

Volkswagen will be called "people's car maker" in India too when it will roll out the Polo hatchback in March 2010. The most-awaited Polo will come in 1.2L engine petrol and diesel engines. The Volkswagen Polo will lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Tata Indica Vista and Hyundai i10. Volkswagen has already started the development of the Polo in its factory in Pune and the first India-made Polo rolled out of its mill on 12th December.

Nissan Micra

The Nissan March will be introduced in the Indian car bazaar as the Micra. The Micra will enter the India in May 2010. The Micra will sport a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine and will come in two variants, namely 14E and 14C. Nissan has revealed the images of the Micra and it looks like this hatchback has all the makings of a winner with its cutting-edge styling. Moreover, the plush interiors will carry all the high level equipments with ample of safety features like ABS, EBD, airbags, reinforced cabins and crushable zones and brake assist. The Micra will go head-to-head with the class-leading Maruti Suzuki Swift.

Chevrolet Beat

From the information that we have garnered until now, unofficially the Chevrolet Beat is going to be the first car to be introduced in India in 2010. The Beat is considered to be Chevrolet's attempt to get a hold on the small car segment in India. The Beat will feature two engine options, a 82 bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine which is expected to be highly fuel efficient or a 57 bhp 936 cc diesel engine. The Chevy Beat will exhibit a stylish interior and sporty exterior with a large air dam and headlights placed all through the edges of the front hood. The car will be made locally as it is going to enter the Indian market in large numbers.
