Upcycle Crafts: Recycled Soda Can Embellished Accent Table
For this project, you will need (per accent table):
- One small unfinished wooden accent table or a paint and stain free refurbished wooden accent table
- Several sheets of medium and/or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Dover White
- Several washed out soda cans
- Tin snips
- Ruler
- Fine tipped permanent marker
- Epoxy glue
- Newsprint and/or a large sized drop cloth
Before starting this project, cover the work area with sheets of old newsprint and/or a large sized drop cloth. Sand down the table with sheets of medium and/or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe away any grit on the surface of the wood with a tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth.
Prime the wood using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Once the primer has dried completely, paint the table with a few solid coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Dover White. Let the table set for a few hours to dry.
While wearing work gloves, carefully cut up the sides of the tin cans. Remove the top and bottom circles of the can, leaving a flat sheet of tin.
Place the tin pieces print side down. With a ruler and fine tipped permanent marker, create several one inch squares on the metal. Create as many squares as needed to cover the top of the accent table. Carefully cut out the squares using tin snips.
Apply epoxy glue to the non-print side of each tin square. Adhere the squares to the table top in a grid like fashion. This will cover the entire accent table top with can pieces. Once the glue has dried completely, enjoy your new creation.
TIP: Make sure all edges of the tin are secure on the table top to prevent and accidental cuts from the sharp edges. (A small craft roller may help ensure this.) Always use caution and gloves when working with the tin and tin snips to prevent any accidental injuries.
