A lot of publications and advocacy groups need to refresh their whole congressional database this time of year. These are the best resources I found and how to use them.
Roll Call Casualty List for the 111th Congress: This will give you all the names for the outgoing senators and members of congress that you'll have to delete or get new addresses for. It includes those defeated for election plus those who left for any other reason including retirement so it's the most complete list.
Roll Call New & Defeated Senators and New & Defeated Representatives: Get the 16 new senators and the 96 new representatives that you'll need to add. Click on the bottom of the page on the numbers under new members and it will bring up 2 separate lists of their names.
U.S. House of Representatives Contact Information: The fastest place I saw to get each member's contact information is at The Office of the Clerk at the House. Use the drop-down menu with their names under "Contact Information" at the bottom of the page. Also good is the member phone directory which does include their room numbers and will save you from doing separate searches. Be warned. If you go to the representatives' pages directly, you'll keep getting pop-up's asking if you want to sign up for their newsletters.
U.S. Senate Contact Information: Use this link or select "senators" on the homepage of the U.S. Senate. You can search or select them all on one page or scroll down for what you need.
If the guy who got laid off before you left the database in good shape, you can probably put this all into Excel. Then you can separate the fields and import it in one step. Put on Pandora Radio or a podcast if you have to do more manual labor.
Personally, I'm a Buddhist so I'm with Ben Jonson on the importance of all this. He said something like, "Of all that human hearts have to endure, there's very little that senators can cure." Okay, he didn't mention senators, but the idea remains the same. Actually, having one king would get rid of having to update 2011 congress contact information for over 100 records.

Post a CommentWell done, and actually a great resource. I have my US senators & congressman in my email address book, as well as the White House & my state representatives & governor at the ready - and I email them often, whenever I want to voice my concerns or questions! (I really do love the Internet & Democracy!!!)
