Updating Your Style: A Guide to Reviving Your Wardrobe with Only a Few New Items

C. Phillips
You don't have to buy a completely new wardrobe to look your best for the holidays. Just adding a few items to your wardrobe can make it look like you are updated without spending more than you need to.

Colors

Every season there are colors that make their appearance more than others. This season classic white, brown, pine green, and burgundy are hot hues. Making a somewhat first appearance is a redish orange color that is often referred to as "spice." Just by purchasing a cap-sleeved T, a tailored blazer, a skirt, a button down shirt, or even a purse in any of the 'in' colors will instantly update your look. The versatile "spice" color goes well with gray, dark blue, brown, black, white, and even flannel plaid skirts. And for once the leading fashion designers have picked a color that everyone looks great in. Surprising, no?

Styles

Long, lusciously flowing skirts in georgette layers, or velvet are in for this winter. Pair them with a comfy sweater, or cami and blazer combination for a polished look. For a fitted style, knee-length pencil skirts in leather, flannel plaid, or solids are a great updated addition to any wardrobe.

And for the more fashion ambitious, gauchos paired with tall boots or classy pumps are a runway hit this season.

Accents

Some accents to look for are lace, fur, metallics, and lurex. A fur collar, a lace accent cami, a metallic skirt or shirt, and a lurex threaded sweater are all fashion 'ins' for winter 2006; all that glitters or is soft and ritzy is an easy way to glam up your wardrobe for the holidays. Even just a scarf and hat set in fur can do the trick.

From the fame of Hollywood come corset-lacing accents this year. Find a belt, shirt, or even pants with criss-cross lacing closures down the front or sides, and you'll look chic this season.

Coats

Don't underestimate the fashion power in just buying a new coat. Since you'll spend most of your time in a coat while traveling, shopping, or arriving at parties, make a statement. The perfect coats this 2006 are wool in ¾ length or longer. Choose from toggles, double breasted, or single closures with fur or a simple notched collar. Enclose a sweater in a nice coat with just a pair of standard boot cut jeans and some tall buckled boots and you can look polished wherever you go.
