She has the same problem with her computer. And while you might think they are soul mates their way of thinking is actually far from each other. She searched for ways to enhance her computer rather than to buy a new one, and she found an informative forum and decided to upgrade on the memory.
It was a very lame story, I know, I'm sorry.
Anyways,
There are ways amiss everybody else's thoughts that they could improve their computers a lot cheaper than buying new quad cores out there.
The misconception is, single core, dual core, quad core computers, aren't really much to differ each other if your not gonna use your computer as a server that needs to process a lot of load.
Even a single core computer can compete with the new quad cores, with just the proper upgrades.
To upgrade your computer, you first need to determine what you need an upgrade for.
Faster Computer
An ordinary user wanting to programs faster and smoother should simply invest on memory (or RAM) it is what the computer uses as a buffer for data that is being used by programs. Having a large RAM should make running your programs and your whole experience easier.
Read here, how to choose the right type of memory for your computer if it is what you need.
Faster Gaming
Although for gaming, that memory is also an aspect that you should upgrade; the graphics card is the main object. For improved gaming performance (being a gamer myself) I do not recommend that you get yourself a core two computer. Sure you get a good computer with a good set of memory *for the price* you pay. But some games just don't work as well with dual or quad cores; some games even ignore the presence of the other cores and just use one of them. So there's basically no difference. You might as well have just upgraded on memory and graphics card all the same.
