Warm motherly hand
Smoothing over her infant's warm head
Cupping water over baby's soft newness
gently
Returning it to a salt bath
Nature's machine
on gentle cycle.
But this dawn is not an option.
This child will live
for thousands of days
Mother will give
and let loose her pain
because of what she was put through.
A day's work
(their laundry mixing together
folded together)
and a day's end.
Smoothing over her infant's warm head
Cupping water over baby's soft newness
gently
Returning it to a salt bath
Nature's machine
on gentle cycle.
But this dawn is not an option.
This child will live
for thousands of days
Mother will give
and let loose her pain
because of what she was put through.
A day's work
(their laundry mixing together
folded together)
and a day's end.
