U-Pick Farms and Orchards in Atlanta, Georgia

Make picking fruits and vegetables a fun filled outing for the family. Not only do you get to escape the hectic everyday city life, but you get and opportunity to taste fine, natural, organic grown foods that are healthy. There are a variety of u-pick farms and orchards in Atlanta, Georgia. These farms and orchards can be found in the surrounding counties of metro Atlanta. The following counties are: Cobb, Fulton, Gwinnett, and Henry County.

Cobb County

The first county in metro Atlanta is Cobb County. In Cobb County, there is Mrs. Jack Halleckand they have fresh figs. They are usually opened from 7 am to 7 pm on Mondays-Saturdays. You have to call them for availability at 770-948-1921 and you can bring your own containers. Picking buckets are furnished but you can not take them home. Mrs. Jack Halleck usually has a variety of figs throughout the summer, including Celeste, Brown Turkey, and Black Mission. The best times for the figs are from mid July to September.

Fulton County

Another county in metro Atlanta is Fulton County. Ed's Christmas Trees and Ernest N. Harris are two u-pick farms and orchards in Fulton County. Ed's Christmas Trees (770) 969-2142 is located in located in Fairburn, Georgia and have they Christmas Trees, eggs, and honey. They are open November and December for their Christmas Trees from 1 pm - 6 pm (Monday - Thursday), (1 pm - 8 pm Friday), (9 am - 8 pm Saturday and Sunday). Their eggs are available year around and their honey is available from July until sold out. Ernest N. Harris is also located in Fairburn, Georgia and they have concord grapes. You have to call them at 770-964-9405 for availability.

The Green Door Market is another place in Fulton that you can go to pick your fruits and vegetables. The market is located in Atlanta, Georgia. The Green Door Market has a variety of fruits and vegetables such as: apples, apricots, beans, blueberries, broad beans, broccoli, carrots, cherries, cranberries, cucumbers, currants (red and black), flowers, grapes, grapefruit, herbs/spices, lavender, onions, peas, peaches, peppers, summer squash, Honey from hives on the farm, snacks and refreshment stand, restrooms, picnic area, face painting. Gwinnett County

The third county in metro Atlanta is Gwinnet County. Gwinnet County has a wide variety of u-pick farms and orchards. Briar Patch is located at 2503 Cammie Wages Road, Dacula, GA. They have apples (early), pears, blueberries, blackberries, figs, squash, tomatoes, corn, muscadines, pecans and potatoes. They are usually open at 8 am to 7 pm from Tuesdays to Saturdays. You can call them at 770-962-4990 for details.

Mason Farm is located is located in Gwinnett County. The farm is located at 4108 Anderson Livsey Lane, Snellville, GA 30039. For their fruits, Mason Farm follows organic practices. They have figs and muscadine grapes. For more information call them at 770 985-5422 or e-mail at pj4108@netscape.com. They are open Wednesday to Saturday, from 9 am to 7 pm and Monday, from 9 am to 7 pm. Mason Farm's Muscadines are usually available from mid August to October and the figs are available from September to October; Pre-picked vegetables are available from mid July.

Washington Farms is also located in Gwinnett Couny. This farm is owned by John and Donna Washington. They have two locations. One is at 3650 Loganvill Hwy., Watkinsville, GA 30677, Loganville, GA 30052 and the other one is at 5691 Hog Mountain Road, Watkinsville, GA 30607. For more details you call them at 706-769-0627 or e-mail them at donna@washingtonfarms.net. They have strawberries and blackberries. Their strawberries are usually available in Mid April to Mid June, and their Blackberries (June-August). Washington Farms is usually open Monday to Saturday, 8am - 8pm and closed on Sunday. Call before driving out to make sure they're open and for current picking conditions.

Henry County

The last county in metro Atlanta is Henry County. In Henry County, there are several u-pick farms and orchards. The first one is Little Hope Farm which is located at 325 Singley Drive, Locust Grove, Georgia. For more information you can contact them at 770-957-3786. Little Hope Farm has blackberries, blueberries, corn, tomatoes, beans starting mid-June. They are usually open from dawn-dusk daily but you should call to confirm. The farm offers the old-fashioned Homestead high-acid tomato, Roma and other pole types; Blue Lake snap beans; Silver Queen, Pioneer field corn.

Panola Mountain State Park is another place for picking fresh fruits. They have Blackberry Picking Day (Blackberry Pickin). Panola Mountain State Park is located at 2600 Ga. Hwy. 155 SW, Stockbridge, GA 30281. You can call them at 770-389-7801 for more details. This is a fun outing for the family. You can rid eyour bike on the Arabia Mountain Trial, or go to the historic Vaughters Farm. A park ranger will guide participants to where the best berries are located. You should bring your own containers, gloves and insect repellant. The park also has 2 miles of hiking which are self-guided nature trails.

Just remember to call the farms and orchards for more details and to make sure that they are opened. Some of the farms and orchards have websites as well. Metro Atlanta has a lot to offer when it comes to u-pick farms and orchards. It is a great way to get away from the hectic everyday city life. An extra bonus is that it is lots of fun for the family.
