In my youth, I was a cable logger, really: like Axmen (the TV show). They had lots of sayings in the woods, some of which I repeat from time to time:

'When the water is low -- the stumps will show'

Is one of those. It refers to character: because sometimes, in the woods, things break, people get hurt, and the day can be very long: it is in those moments that you discover what you are made of: and sometimes, you are inspired by others.

The time when you accidentally find out who your friends are, is when you are challenged, beyond the limits of endurance: who will stand with you, and see it through until the triumph?!

In business, huge losses go with the territory. As SEO coach Katerina says:

I am here, as living proof, that we can. I think about and write about human character a great deal: it matters to me, without boring you with how many of these defining moments have occurred in my life: the real battle at these times is not between you and the elements; it is not between you and your competitors; the real battle, is between you, and you. It is at these times that fortunes are lost and won: as I am sure that Katerina, and my very many allies would agree.
