Uppsala: The Perfect Religous Getaway

Uppsala, Sweden was founded in 1146 as the religious center of Sweden. In modern times it is still home to the Archbishop of The Church of Sweden. Situated on Muddy, futile land Uppsala is surrounded with fertile plains.
With religion as the main focal point of the city Uppsala contains some amazing Cathedrals. The main Cathedral located within the area is Domkyrkan. Every year over half a million people pilgrim to this Cathedral to take place in a service. Built out of multi-color brick. The windows are ornate stained glass and are done in both color and black and white. The pulpit is the largest of its kind used in mass today. On very rare occasions the Cathedral is used to host concerts and poetry readings. With an ancient architecture and amazing artwork this is a great place to see what religion truly means to the Swedes.

Another famous part of Uppsala is "Old Town". This is the original location of the city and is a few miles north of the main population. This region of the city was founded in the 3rd Century and is rich in remains from these times. The Religious power of Uppsala originates from the tiny village. Legend says the Odin himself once resided in The Old Town. Odin in an ancient god that was once worshiped all through Europe. European Pagonis still make live sacrifices in the temple of Odin located in this village. Visiting this area allows you to see not only Swedish history but history that plays a major part in all of Europe.

Another Piece of ancient history that is still standing in Uppsala is the Uppsala Castle. The Castle is the first castle built for the Swedish Family. Today it houses modern government facilities and is the home to the Uppsala County Governor. The castle also houses the Uppsala art museum. Tours are given throughout the castle and it allows anyone to imagine what it would be like to live like a monarch.

Uppsala contains some rare remnants from the Vikings. Rune stones line the yards of the ancient cathedral. Most any remnants left over from Viking times have been destroyed by more recent settlers. These ancient Rune Stones gives a glance back into history that is well known but rarely ever seen.

The botanical gardens are an urban park area. With flowers that have been imported from all over the world the scenery is truly breathtaking. In the center of the gardens is a café named. Hugo's Coffee house. It is a small quaint atmosphere and the people there treat everyone the same. They are always crowded because of the locally famed sandwiches. Grab a seat and soak up the atmosphere it is a great place to start or end a day.

Uppsala is an amazing city that welcomes anyone from anywhere. With so many beautiful sights it is the perfect place to relax your eyes from the ugly world and take some time to rejuvenate. No one could ever visit this city and not want to come back.
