Major cities in Upstate New York state have some great entertainment and events lined up for their 2008 St. Patrick's Day Parades. You don't have to live in New York City or in the vicinity to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with your family, neighbors and community. Albany (Eastern New York), Buffalo, Rochester and Utica all host their own St. Patrick's Day Parades in upstate New York..

St. Patrick's Day Parades in Upper New York State

Eastern New York: Albany, New York: Saturday, March 15th, 2008

The day begins with Mass at 9am at Holy Family Church located at 283 Central Avenue in Albany, Upstate New York.

The 2008 Albany New York St. Patrick's Day Parade takes places at 2pm. The 58th annual parade begins on Quail and then goes to Central Avenue. The procession heads East Washington Avenue and then to Central Avenue. At State Street the parade route goes to North Pearl Street.

It's Eggs-perimental: March 15, 2008

Families can discover the science of eggs. Pre-register children 5 and up, admission cost is $2. The event takes place at the Children's Museum of Science and Technology at 1pm. The NYSPHSAA Boys Basketball Championship Tournament: March 15, 2008

The NYSPHSAA Boys Basketball Championship Tournament is at 9am, 10:45am, 12:30pm and 2:15pm at Glens Falls Civic Center. The cost is $10.

Upstate New York: Buffalo: Saturday, March 15th, 2008

The 5th Annual Old Neighborhood St. Patrick's Day Parade takes place on Saturday, March 15th, 2008 at noon. It all starts at the Valley Community Center, according to the Valley Community Association. The Valley Community Center is located near the junction of Elk Street and South Park Avenue.

Best places to view the procession, according to the organizers, is anywhere along "South Park Avenue, Smith Street, Elk Street, Hamburg Street, or O'Connell Avenue." (Valley Community Association)

Upstate New York: Rochester: March 15, 2008

The Rochester, New York St. Patrick's Day Parade is on March 15, 2008 at 12:30pm. The Rochester parade route starts on East Avenue and heads to Main Street. It ends at Plymouth Avenue.

The "Old Neighborhood" Rochester, New York St. Patrick's Day Parade was founded in 1994 according to the organizers. The parade, however, has roots that are older and deeper than 13 years.

The "Old Neighborhood" parade celebrates the Irish history in Rochester by following the same path that was taken on the original parade in 1913. The historic parade route brings the participants though the Valley and Old First Ward neighborhoods. (Valley Community Association)

It's also the second biggest St. Patrick's Day Parade in Western New York according to the Valley Community Association.

Parking Tips for the Rochester, New York St. Patrick's Day Parade

According to the organizers, street parking on side streets is okay. There are also parking garages on East Avenue, South Clinton and Woodbury.

There will also be shuttle buses from parking areas near Fitzhugh Street, Main Street and Plymoth Street. The shuttle buses are scheduled to leave every half hour between 10: 30am and noon.

Upstate New York Utica Plains: Saturday, March 15th, 2008

The Utica Plains, New York New York St. Patrick's Day Parade is on Saturday, March 15th, 2008 at 10am. According to the organizers, the parade starts at "Oneida Square on Genesee Street Utica" in Upstate New York and ends at "Columbia and Genesee Street Utica." (Great American Irish Festival)

According to the City of Utica, New York St. Patrick's Day Parade started "approximately 30 years ago" with just a small group of Irishmen. Now it has grown well beyond its humble beginnings.

"The parade has now grown to be one of the top five largest St. Patrick's Day parades in New York State." (City of Utica)
