Uptown: Charlotte, NC Neighborhood Profile

Uptown is considered Charlotte's Center City, Uptown is where all the young trendy single folks want to live, work and play. The area is divided into four different wards. The first, third and fourth are basically residential while the second ward is made up of city and county government offices. Uptown offers a great nightlife scene along with historic sites, museums, restaurants and cultural activities. It is the core of the business district in Charlotte with some 77,000 people working in the area. It's basically the "Manhattan" of North Carolina.

It is the center point of Charlotte and encompasses the intersection of Trade and Tryon Streets. Most people drive into Uptown and pay for parking in one of the several parking garages or lots. But, commuters can take an express city bus for $1.65 placing them to any of the surrounding areas ($1.20 for the one or two leg trips). Uptown also has Taxi Cabs, Trolleys and Street Cars which may cater more to tourists.

The rent Uptown has pretty pricey rents ranging from roughly $600 to $1800 or higher depending on the apartment communities. Buying a house or condo can range from: High $100,000 to 1 or 2 million dollar homes.

Education:
Johnson & Wales University, a culinary arts university, is located at the Gateway Village complex a few blocks from the central business district at 801 W Trade Street.

Library:
The Main Branch of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Library is located on North Tryon St.

Uptown Restaurants:
It is hard to find good pizza, but Brixx Pizza@ 225 E. 6th St., offers some of the fastest service and best pizza in Charlotte. If you are looking for an upscale seafood restaurant along with live jazz, you may want to check out LaVecchia's @ 225 E. 6th St. Or, would you prefer paying less and are in search of soul food, you may want to head over to Simmons Soul Food @ 516 N. Graham St. Either way, there are tons of restaurants for every price range and taste bud in Uptown.

Uptown Nightlife:
There are about a dozen really hot bar-clubs in Charlotte from Hip-Hop to Rock and 80's themed venues. You can find what you are looking for in Uptown.
