Urban Decay Big Buddha Brush - Product Review

With Bristles the Size of a Peach

Layla A.
Being a huge fan of kabuki brushes, softness, and Urban Decay, I was psyched to finally get the Big Buddha Brush in the mail. Being, quite possibly, the cutest kabuki I own, it has a small purple handle and purple-tipped white bristles. What really makes the Big Buddha the Big Buddha is (you guessed it!)- its size.

HANDLE

Unlike most other kabuki brushes, this one has an oval handle that is really skinny, but pretty long. The handle is a medium purple with the ever-so-gorgeous Urban Decay logo on the side, flower patterns and the signature star surrounding it. The handle, while looking weird, is actually really natural to hold and a cool experience versus other kabukis. The handle shape makes it stand impeccably well and allows the brush to really fan out and expand. It feels very secured to the bristles and sturdy in the hand. Overall, a very unique handle that I actually quite enjoy.

BRISTLES

Besides the bristles being the cutest in the world, they are not very dense, yet very soft. All Urban Decay brushes are synthetic, making them guilt-free. The bristles on the Big Buddha are gigantic! The bristles are about the size of my fist, making this brush better for the arms or décolletage. The bristles are very soft and fan out in the shape of the handle. When pinched, they are very dense and make a great bronzer, contour brush.

BUILD QUALITY

This brush, while unique, feels very sturdy and can stand on its own, which I love. I have had no problems with the handle breaking or anything coming apart, and even the way the bristles are colored improves how well-made this brush is. The quality of this brush is very high, as it should be with a price tag of $36 on urbandecay.com. When run over the hand, it is very reminiscent of the Sigma SS150 Powder Brush and of course, as soft. However, it is also extremely smooth like all the MAC brushes. This brush is obviously a Big Buddha amongst bug dogs.

APPLICATION

This brush is great for applying a light layer of powder, but I do not use it after my eye makeup is done. Since it is so large, you cannot avoid the eye area making mascara and eyeliner smudge horribly. However, it is a very good brush for dusting the face before eye making and body application like the arms, shoulders, décolletage, etc. As I mentioned before, when the bristles are pinched together, it makes an awesome bronzer/contour brush that really gets in the cheekbones. I find this brush is awesome for some obscure applications and some regular run-of-the-mill ones.

FINAL OPINIONS

I highly recommend this brush as a specialty brush. Will you use it every day? Probably not... but it is great if you ever need to apply anything on the shoulders for a strapless dress or something like that. It is amazingly huge, so for people with smaller builds, you may not find this useful. This brush is available
