Urban Decay Deluxe Eye Shadow in Graffiti: A Review

The Pen
I went to Sephora a while ago not looking for anything in particular. Every time I'm in there I always have to look at the Urban Decay section because they always have fun makeup colors or some kind of unusual product.

When I saw that Urban Decay had a collection of Deluxe eye shadows that had brighter and more intense colors than their regular eye shadows I was interested. I looked at all of the Deluxe shadows and the color that interested me the most was a shade called Graffiti.

The Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow in Graffiti costs $18 and comes in an egg shaped compact that has a small mirror inside. The coolest thing about it is the lid. It has 'Urban Decay' written boldly on it in pink and green, graffiti-style like someone tagged it.

Graffiti is a true green or a fresh grass green color and I just had to buy it because I've always loved the way green looks against my brown skin, it just brightens my complexion and makes me look healthy and tan. So I knew this Urban Decay shadow would look good on me too.

The Urban Decay Deluxe Eye Shadow is a powder shadow but it has a soft and moist feel to it so it feels softer and more velvety than other eye shadows. It blended really easily and didn't crease, but I didn't think it was more intense than their regular eye shadows.

When I got home I tried on Graffiti and it didn't look the same on my eyes as it looked in the compact. The first layer I applied looked like a soft wash of green, it almost looked as light as a sea foam green or Shamrock Shake green which I wasn't expecting.

It looked okay that way, but it was too subtle for me, and it kind of looked liked I'd slept in green eye shadow that had faded in the morning. I wanted the true green that I saw in the package. So I layered a couple of more layers of Graffiti on my eyelids and I finally got the shadow to look darker.

But the Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow still looked kind of soft and pretty so I decided to apply it with a wet eye shadow brush, and that's when I finally got the bolder brighter green color I was looking for. It's not really noticeable in the compact but once it's blended you can see a fine silvery or white shimmer, rather than a golden one, which is why it looks like sea-foam green color, rather than a true green.

I wound up liking the way Graffiti looked wet and dry because my skin was light enough to pull it off. Even though it seems harsher in the package, it gave me a soft green glow on my eyes which was cool but still pretty. But if my skin had been a darker brown, this color would have been way too chalky and ashy looking, because of the cool tones of the shimmer.

My only complaints about the Urban Decay Eye Shadow though was the fact that it did take a lot of layers in order to get this color to show up on my skin as it looks in the case. It's not as intensely pigmented as I thought. And it can make your eyes look really red and dull if you don't use it without eye drops,.

In the End...

I like Graffiti , I definitely feel cool and edgy with it, but it can also look soft and pretty since it's not a harsh green. I also like the fact that it's unique because grass green isn't a color you see women wearing every day. It's not for everyone but for those who have the courage to rock it and who have light to medium brown skin, you will be pleased.

I'd probably buy Graffiti again just because I like the color, but if you're looking for more pigmented eye shadows that would provide a truer color I'd recommend those by L'oreal, which are more intense and less expensive than Urban Decay Deluxe shadows.3.5 out of 5 stars .
