Urban Decay Eyeshadow in AC/DC from the Book of Shadows Vol. II

Layla A.
When the first Urban Decay Book of Shadows came out, I swore I would never buy it- it seemed very large and inconvenient for a palette and I honestly did not like all of the pop-ups. However, when my birthday came around last year and I had a gift card to Ulta, I ended up buying the Urban Decay Book of Shadows II. For one color. The color that attracted me? Oh yes. It is the name of a band I like: AC/DC. Classic Rock, Urban Decay, purple. That completely sums me up in three words. On the website, this color did not excite me. After walking into Ulta, I was immediately drawn to its beauty. Was it really worth the $48? Honestly, yes!!!

COLOR

I like light purples, medium purples, dark purples, blue-based purples, red-based purples, iridescent purples, reflex purples, and everything in between. However, AC/DC does not really fit in any of those categories, and I must say it is my favorite all around purple color. I do like Ecstasy for spring, but AC/DC is a great year-round color for me and I use it all the time. Now to tell you what it actually looks like. AC/DC is a darker, smoky purple- almost like a taupe-y gray purple. If I were to pick a base color for it, I'd say it was more on the blue-spectrum, but because of the gray du chrome, it is hard to tell. I use this in the crease, on the lower lash line, all over my lid, as eyeliner, in the inner corner for really dark looks, and in the outer corner. My best tip, would be to try this color over a black base (their 24/7 Glide-On in Zero works quite well) to bring out the true, true purple. It completely isolates it and makes it look amazing.

FORMULA

It is no secret that the Urban Decay formula is a gem, and this color is no exception. It is soft, blends well, has extreme pigmentation, is multi-use, lasts forever, and does not leave any fallout on the face. I have always said that Stila has the softest shadows. If any of you have read my past Stila reviews, you will know that I despise Stila eyeshadows for the lack of pigment in them. Urban Decay's are not quite as soft, but they exceed in the color payoff department.

FUNCTIONALITY

Since this is the perfect purple smoky eye color, I think it is extremely functional, at least for someone like me. I like to make a statement with my eye makeup, and this does just that. Plus since this is dark enough to use as eyeliner, it is multi-use.

PACKAGING/PRICE

Urban Decay does not currently sell AC/DC as it was limited edition in the Book of Shadows II, but you can still find the Book of Shadows II on eBay and other various makeup websites, though you will probably pay a lot more than the original $48 for it.

FINAL OPINIONS

This color describes me. I absolutely love it and want to use it every day, but since it was limited edition, I have to use it sparingly. It is a great color for a plethora of uses and looks, making it a must have on my list.
