Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Gunmetal

Layla A.
When I heard the name Gunmetal, I expected it to be a bright silver shade. Honestly, that didn't sound interesting to me- I have plenty of silvers and why would I need another one. While Gunmetal is silver, it is a very unique silver color with the great Urban Decay formula. While I still prefer my bright metallic silver, I really cannot compare the two as Gunmetal is such an unusual shadow color.

COLOR

Gunmetal is a dirty silver, but definitely a silver. It immediately reminds me of a smoky eye and begs for other interesting colors to be paired with it. It is not very bright and out there, but it accents the other colors and steps out of the spotlight, so to speak, allow whatever you pair with it to shine. However, it is very visible on the eye- do not expect this to be sheer. It does have some light silver glitter, but it is hardly visible and can even be brushed off if you do not want it.

FORMULA

Much like any other Urban Decay shadow, this one is a dream to work with. It is soft, very pigmented, blends better than any other brand, and lasts forever. What is also great about Gunmetal versus Urban Decay's other colors is that even when you pick up a good amount of color, it doesn't create loose dust in the pan. You will also not see any fall out with this one so long as you use a primer or base for it to stick to.

FUNCTIONALITY

I can see Gunmetal being used in black smoky eyes, silver smoky eyes, gray smoky eyes, and all during the winter season. Because it is so easy to apply and lasts all day, you only need to apply it once. However, if you do need to retouch, it is more than easy since there are no fallout problems.

PACKAGING

Gunmetal is in a silver compact, indicating it is the regular formula. It is a very sturdy compact with a great clasp and will not crack on the front like some of my MAC ones have.

PRICE

Gunmetal retails at Urban Decay for $17.

FINAL OPINIONS

If you do not like dark eye makeup, I would avoid this one. However, if you like smoky eyes or even purple looks (this looks great with purple), this is a great color to have. Since it is not a crazy bright silver, it is not as scary as some metallic silvers. This dirty silver is a great color for winter, and I hope to lots of people using it next winter season.
