Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Mushroom from the Book of Shadows Vol. II

Layla A.
As I have said before, I do not wear neutrals too often. However, I am a huge fan of the smoky eye, and if there is a neutral that looks good in it, I am all there. Mushroom is that such color. It looks so good in smoky eyes that I never use it for anything else, besides the occasional defining of the crease in some other looks. When quality and color meet in the middle, it creates an awesome product, like Mushroom.

COLOR

Mushroom is a gray-brown type of color, and has almost a duo chrome to it. In some lights and angles, you only see the brown, but in a lot of others, you get the smoky brown-gray. It reminds me a lot of MAC's Satin Taupe, though slightly lighter. I think this is a fairly unique shade, but I know there are dupes out there. You also have to take into account how they look on- Mushroom looks completely different on my eye than Satin Taupe does.

FORMULA

Mushroom is very smooth and leaves nothing to be desired. It clings to primers and bases like no other and stays put until you take it off. I have tried using it as liner, but for some reason, it caked up on me. That, however, is my only complaint formula-wise. It is extremely soft and has amazing pigmentation, so what more could you ask for? The liner working a little better I guess....

FUNCTIONALITY

Since this is almost a dirty color, I don't typically use it outside of smoky eyes. If you are opposed to a classic smoky, than I suggest you look elsewhere. On the flipside, if you rock smoky eyes on a daily basis, this could be a cool new color to try.

PACKAGING/PRICE

Mushroom is another color that was only available in the Urban Decay Book of Shadows II, so it is currently not sold at Urban Decay or any of its other distributors/retailers. I have seen it on eBay and some other makeup sale sites, but you must be willing to cough up a good chunk of change.

FINAL OPINIONS

As far as neutrals go, I really like Mushroom. I wish I would wear it more on its own because it is a different sort of shade, but I am very please by how it looks in brown smoky eyes or black smoky eyes. Do I think you need to go online and try to buy an insanely expensive palette just for this color? No. But if you already have it, try it in a smoky eye- it is a gem.
