Urban Decay Matte Eyeshadow in Perversion

Layla A.
Traditionally when you think of black, you think depressing or "edgy". However, a basic black eyeshadow is an essential in anyone's makeup stash. Whether you use it as eyeliner, crease defining, a base, shading, or just a dark look, you definitely need one. That being said, Perversion is a pretty good choice and will meet all of your basic black needs.

COLOR

Perversion is a matte black. There is no undertone, shimmer, duo chrome, glitter, nothing. It is a pure black that can be packed on for an intense black, or blended out for a soft gray-black. It really works on a whole bunch of different levels and it is not a scary "raccoon" black.

FORMULA

This is one of Urban Decay's matte finishes, and I must say that I am impressed by it. It goes on soft and blends impeccably easy. It is also surprisingly long lasting with or without a good base. Perversion can also be layered for a very intense, true black. My only problem with this color is that it is so pigmented, it can stain your eyes. However, a little Tea Tree Oil soap will take it right off, making it a nonissue.

FUNCTIONALITY

Just like black eyeliner, black eyeshadow can be used for many things. It is a very functional color and is easy to touch up, take with you, or even, just put it on once in the morning. This is an everyday product for me because whether I am using it as an all-over color or crease definition, I always reach for it.

PACKAGING

Perversion is in Urban Decay's matte eyeshadow packaging. It is the same as the regular shadows, but instead of silver, it is a matte gold-bronze color. The clasp works great and you can hear it click shut. Since the top is not the cheap-plastic-window kind of top, it is very durable and will not break in your purse.

PRICE

Perversion retails at Urban Decay for $17. While pricier than a MAC shadow, this one is not as intimidating as Carbon.

FINAL OPINIONS

Since a matte black is necessary, I think this is a great option. Perversion is highly pigmented, has great staying power, blends easily, can be layered, and goes a long way. I could not ask for more from a matte eyeshadow which are typically hard to work with (in my opinion). Urban Decay has redefined the difficulty of working with a black and a matte and made it insanely easy.
