A few years ago I was browsing in a Sephora and looked at all of the eye shadow colors that Urban Decay carried. Some of the shades were kind of out there and were too intimidating for me to try. But for some reason the least scary one for me was a shade called Mildew, so I bought a compact of it.
The Urban Decay Eyeshadow cost $16 for a small .05 oz of it. It comes in an etched silver compact that looks like a small sewer or garbage can lid, though it can also be a token because 'Good For One Fare' is engraved on the lid.
Inside the Mildew shade looks very similar to real mildew, but I would describe it as more of an army green or a warm pear shade. Even though it seems like an outrageous shade to wear I've found Mildew to be quite wearable.
The color against my golden brown skin looks like a soft neutral eye shadow that just happens to be green. For a brighter and more intense look, I usually apply Mildew with a wet shadow brush and the color looks more vibrant and true then against my brown skin.
My only problem with the Urban Decay's Mildew Eye Shadow has been trying to find other makeup colors that complement it. But a few months back I saw photos in a fashion magazine where a model wore army green eye shadow along with bronzed cheeks and a nude lip. It looked really sexy so I copied the look and really liked it.
Also in the March '09 issue of Allure Magazine pear green eye shadow was recommended for this spring, Victoria Kirby in Spring Fling, that "Green eye shadow isn't exactly a crowd-pleaser. But a softened shade with a bit of yellow is surprisingly pretty." I totally agree with her and this season I'll be wearing my Urban Decay Mildew shadow again, probably with berry, orange, and pale pink lipsticks.
I have to say that Urban Decay's Mildew Eye Shadow is one of my favorites. It's a color that I never see people wearing so I always look unique when I wear it. And even though it's a quirky color it's very versatile, it can be used for a natural or a really off the wall look depending on the other make up colors you wear with it.
I recommend this shade to people with medium and darker skin tones. Skip it if you have pale skin because it might wash you out. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
