A Mother and Her Son

Autumn Clanton
The whisper of lavender wafts from atop your crown of gold
In the absence of light, I feel your hand grasp mine
That solitary action fills my soul
For you need me, just as I do you

By my side I hear your breath
My ears strain for each inhale
Each exhale
Each sigh

My ears hear your voice as you speak my name
It flows like a waterfall All around me
Engulfing me

Deep pools of blue Cloak me in a warm embrace
I can see your innocence search my eyes
For the answers you seek
Looking at me, you look through me

An infectious sound spreads all around me
Coming from the sky, the ground, the trees
It draws me near like a charmer does a snake

I back up, afraid to let it taint me
As I breathe in, it is all consuming
Your laughter
Your glorious laughter

Your smile emits rays
Warming my seconds
My minutes
My hours
My days

We begin to dance
Dancing to the music of my soul
The music virgin ears do not detect

You twirl in circles
Arms spread wide
You vacuum up the beauty of the world
Only for a moment

I watch you release it back into the world
Back into my life

My heart tells me before you came along
My world was not complete
And I had spent my life
Waiting for you
