The Democrats are known for their giving natures. They give and give and give. Of course studies have shown that Democrats, who are liberals and progressives, do not give their own money. No way! They give your money away by the buckets full every chance they get, and they are getting another chance thanks to the UAW (United Auto Workers Union).
Now just to reminder: The UAW is one of the unions the newly elected President and the Democrat Congress want to pass the Employee Free Choice Act for. The little bill that will make it easier for unions to take over companies because workers can just sign a card saying they want a union instead of having the time honored secret ballot. This is so that if a worker doesn't sign the card the union thugs can put some hurt on him. Whereas with a secret ballot no one knows who to strong arm.
Anyhow to get back on topic: The UAW (United Auto Workers) with their greedy demands for more and better wages and benefits for the workers have finally totally bankrupted the American auto industry. It is another "crisis" for Congress to jump into and fix. The fix is all for the workers and the economy and has to be done and done quickly.
"House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, said Congress and the administration "must take immediate action" to stave off a possible collapse of the American auto industry."

Another crisis just like the one that cost our great grandchildren $700 billion just a few weeks ago. This of course followed after the Federal Reserve intervening with loan guarantees for hundreds of billions of dollars for financial institutions and the Congress already bailing out, actually buying, the privately owned Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac! Indeed Congress has gone on a mad shopping spree because just putting Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac in their shopping cart wasn't enough, they had to buy the stock of several national banks and a huge amount of the stock of AIG (American International Group) a large international insurance company that had gotten in trouble through bad business practices.
So, why not add a couple American automobile companies to the federal governments portfolio?!! After all it is the tax payers money doing the buying and in the meantime the Congressmen can play real time Monopoly. Talk about a Reality Show.
"Next week, during the lame-duck session of Congress, we are determined to pass legislation that will save the jobs of millions of workers whose livelihoods are on the line," the majority leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, said in a statement.

For more on this story refer to: http://townhall.com/columnists/CalThomas/2008/11/11/breakdown or to my blog post "Unions, the US auto workers and the consumers--a disconnect".
http://brendabowers.wordpress.com/2008/11/11/unions-us-auto-workers-and-the-consumers-a-disconnect/ . The unionized auto workers under the UAW (United Auto Workers union) do indeed have a livelihood well worth our tax dollars to save since they only pull down an average of $78.21 an hour .
"Congressional aides said that Democrats, should they move ahead with emergency legislation, would have to decide whether to put forward a stand-alone measure for the auto industry or include the aid in a wider economic stimulus measure. Such a package as the latter is likely to include extended unemployment benefits, aid to strapped states and cities, new money for health care and food stamps and possibly money for public works - all programs Mr. Bush has resisted."
And just look how accommodating the auto industry is being to the Democrat Congress, they are providing the opportunity for this Congress to pass a huge "economic stimulus" package of pork they have been just itching to pass. They thought they would have to wait for Obama to take office before they could get on with more spending, but this newest "crisis" is just too good of a chance to miss.
The fact is the American auto industry has been dying for 30+ years now. Since the Japanese got into the auto producing business and began making automobiles cheaper, better and with better mileage than anything put out by Detroit. It really is about time the government allow the free market economy to bury the corpse.
This is how the legions of giant companies have gone before when they failed to keep up with the needs of the consumers: they died and were buried and newer, younger, more responsive companies were born. And yes, there was an initial adjustment that had to be made with the unemployment that resulted, but our government has put in place many safeguards to help displaced workers. This is part of the adjustment that has to be endured for a better and stronger economy in the future. Whereas if the auto industry is bailed out now it will most certainly need to be bailed out again and again. And remember this: the government has no money of it's own; you the tax payer are the governments deep pockets.
There is nothing that is going to stop this depression (recession if you prefer government-speak) from happening. There might have been a chance a month ago if the Congress had used the $700 billion to bail out the economy by producing jobs such as the "possibly money for public works" that is now being bandied about. But take note of the word "possibly" about the public works, but no such "possibly" for the "extended unemployment benefits, aid to strapped states and cities, new money for health care and food stamps". No these little non-productive welfare handouts are not a possibility, they are a sure thing.
Are you disgusted with this Congress yet? Well hold onto your seats because the American public just voted in more Democrats to insure the ever larger welfare checks and rewards for failure continue to go out unimpeded. BB
