U.S. Cellular Customer Service Review

Angelie MacKenzie
When I joined U.S. Cellular, it was on the recommendation of another person. U.S. Cellular has the fast access to a real representative through their automated system. Their representatives are always friendly and willing to assist with account issues.

One positive experience with their customer service comes from a few years ago. While driving through Washington DC and Maryland while talking on my cell phone, my call jumped to another cell phone provider's tower, causing the call to be charged as roaming. I do have service in that area, but tower jumping happens when driving long distances. U.S. Cellular credited my account without any argument.

U.S. Cellular used to offer the option to temporarily change to a nationwide plan and it become active immediately. This was great for people who only travel once or twice a year with little notice. Plans can still be switched, but you have to wait until your billing date.

When I joined with U.S. Cellular about five years ago, they had horrible reception in my home. It took almost two years before the problem was corrected with the addition of more towers. Now, I have no problems using my cell phone in my home.

U.S. Cellular offers paperless billing and online payments. This is great for the environment. It is also convenient being able to view your bill online rather than having to wait for the paper statements. They also offer the choice for automatic payments. This option is invaluable considering how hectic and busy life can be. And you don't have to worry about paying a fee that you would have preferred to dispute first. The automatic payment setup allows for placing a maximum on your automatic payment.

The plans are very reasonable compared to what other cell phone providers charge. However, the fees seem a bit excessive for ring tones, sending pictures, and going online. This is something that U.S. Cellular really needs to adjust to be more competitively priced.

The list of phones that U.S. Cellular offers could be longer. They no longer offer the Audiovox line of phones. I have an Audiovox 8900 and I wanted to upgrade to a newer Audiovox phone, but U.S. Cellular no longer offers them. The great thing about Audiovox is that their phones aren't made of cheap plastic and last longer than most other phones.

I highly recommend U.S. Cellular because they provide excellent customer service and have service in many areas. While they do have some improvements to make, they are still far ahead of the competition.
