For those of you who believe the government would never abuse the Census information, they already have. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, the United States government used the census records in WWII to find the Japanese-Americans to put in concentration camps. Nearly 112,000 innocent American citizens of Japanese ancestry had their rights stripped away using the Census form. source Due to the Freedom of Information Act, we have found the Department of Homeland Security is also tracking all Arab Americans with the United States census form. If you have Arab ancestry the government intends to keep track of where you live. source Margo Anderson from University of Wisconsin and William Seltzer from Fordham University have been documenting the abuse of census information. If you want to read about the dangers of the Census form, here are some of their published papers. It is an invasion of our privacy and un-American. The United States government does not agree, and warns that citizens will be punished if they refuse to provide their personal information.
According to the Census bureau it is a criminal act to refuse to give out your personal information. source For outright refusal to fill out form, they will charge you a $100 fine and may even send over additional agents to continue to harass you. If you just make up false information, the United States government will charge you $500. If you refuse to allow the census taker onto your property they can fine you $1000 and give you one year of prison time! In other words, you are threatened to allow a bunch of temporary workers they hired off the street onto your property or you will be thrown in jail. This doesn't sound very American to me.
I will be one of the many refusing to fill out the 2010 Census form.

Post a CommentHow in the world do sheeple believe this info is kept private. Geesh, crawl in a hole or form a state where you can beg and get raped.
You think the person is lying about WWII. Look at what Hitler did with the census data pertaining to religion.
How does somebody get in such a bad shape they have to take money from a terrorist organization to go around and harrass people in a free country over personal info.
Wake up people before the last few freedoms we enjoy are gone. Why is it so easy for people to forget what happen just 65 years ago?
Veterans and others who proudly served this country (as well as average Americans temporarily in need) often do not have enough services as it is, it would be a shame for those in states with low response numbers to end up without the help, services and legislative representation they deserve, simply because they became convinced the time-honored census process is somehow, sinister, detrimental or Un-American. By the way, all modern, democratic countries copy and implement the American census process.
It seems Canada and the peoples of other nations understand the simple order and necessity of determining how many people there are, so the Country can plan how much of it's resouces (that come from us tax-payers) will be provided in a given area. I don't know about you, but I need EVERY dollar that should be coming to this state to make it here on a jet plane. .....and as for invasive...most of what is asked on the 9 or 10 question Census form is disclosed each time you whip out
What in Heaven's Name could the person who wrote this article be thinking? The Census has been conducted since 1790, the process was conceived and implemented by our (honorable and masterful) forefathers who built protections into the process for individual Americans. Census information is protected and the data, when released, is typically aggregate.
The Census, most importantly, is how we determine how much representation your state has in in the U.S. CONGRESS, Fella. As well, the Census determines how many Federal dollars get apportioned to your state. I certainly hope those im MY state understand the role of the Census and respond. (Oh, and for every person that requires a visit to their door because they did not send in the census form, guess who gets to pay for that.....your state,..... better known as me and you.)

I served my country for this?
I pay my taxes for this?
I watch my country be bankrupted, and scammed for this?
I watch my country be invaded by illegals they want to count with this?
I watch as my representatives no longer represent me...for this?
I am ready to renounce citizenship...because of things like this!
The constitution, Article 2, allows for Census...for the purposes of enumeration...not to enumerate how many orgasms were had last night or in the past 12-months, in my house!!! Enumeration SHOULD be blind, just as a VOTE is...but, then again, when you are data-mining, you can't sell the data if you can't prove the data! F'ing communist country!!!
I will also only answer address and # of people living in house. I pay taxes and it is nobodies business about my race or my income.Another thing,God help anyone from ACORN coming on my private property. They will not be welcomed. They can go tell their Muslim president that I said "Kiss off"
I totally agree and will refuse to give any information other than address and number in household. I've read the 7 questions and my age, sex, race, etc. are none of the government's business. Part of the explanation for the census states, " Hispanic origin is used in numerous programs and is vital in making policy decisions." Sounds like if you're not Hispanic, your race isn't vital in making policy decisions.
I work for the 2010 Census. I am a retired chemist - or as you mention - a person 'off the streets.' I act and will act in good faith.
That's absolutely ridiculous.
