US Marines Join Forces with Shaquille O'Neal

Toys for Tots has long been one of the greatest local community services of the US Marine Corps. This year Shaquille O'Neal, and Toys R Us will join the USMC in their annual Toys for Tots drive with the "Join Shaq Give Back" campaign. They plan on serving an estimated 14 million children this year who are living in poverty.

There are currently an estimated 14 million people in our country who are poor. The worst poverty has hit families with children under 18. Mountain View residents are no exception. The Census Bureau reported that 6.8% of our residents were living in poverty in 1999. This number is likely to be much higher once the 2010 census results are out.

The United States Marines will be on "Toys for Tots duty" November 5^th- 6^th at local Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores "to generate awareness about the fundraising campaign in local markets," according to PR Newswire.

The collection dates are- Sunday, October 31 through December 5 at local Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores. You can also make cash donations to Toys for Tots through December 24.

Mountain View Children who are living in poverty will be the recipients of your generosity. The Toys for Tots is a program that benefits our local community.
