The big upset from yesterday went against fourth seed Andy Murray, who got taken down by 25th seed Stanislas Wawrinka. This is the second-straight early Open exit for Murray, as the long wait for a British Grand Slam title continues.
The loss clears the US Open tennis 2010 schedule a bit for Rafael Nadal, who continued to march through. His hopes for a first title at Flushing Meadows are still alive, after his third consecutive straight set win.
On the women's side, the US Open tennis 2010 results stayed conservative, as Kim Clijsters and Venus Williams kept marching on. Defending champion Clijsters got another dominant win over Ana Ivanovic, while Williams struggled in the first set against Shahar Peer, but finally got through. Meanwhile, Samantha Stosur and Francesca Schiavone also filled the first half of the women's quarterfinal bracket.
Today's US Open tennis 2010 results will fill the rest of the women's quarters, highlighted by Caroline Wozniacki taking on Maria Sharapova. Meanwhile, the men start filling their quarterfinal slots, as Roger Federer faces Jurgen Melzer, Novak Djokovic tries to stop American Mardy Fish, and Robin Soderling clashes with Albert Montanes.
Thus far, the schedule continues to be easy for the top seeds, although both the men's and women's fourth seeds are now out. If the favorites keep going for the next few days, it will form some super showdowns for the weekend. However, some of the top players are now getting closer to their demons.
Heading into the US Open tennis 2010 schedule, Federer had been knocked out of the last two quarterfinals, but he will have a chance to correct that if he wins today. Nadal will soon have to prove himself more than he ever has at Flushing Meadows, while Wozniacki's dominance may end soon. Clijsters is still on track for a repeat, while Venus Williams has her chance to break from Serena's shadow for a week.
If any surprises are going to come in this year's results, they will have to form over the next few days. For the third straight day, US Open tennis 2010 action will be shown on CBS from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m..
