How is Veterans Day Officially Observed?
Veterans Day 2010 will be officially observed on Thursday, November 11th. The traditional Veterans Day National Ceremony will begin at precisely 11:00 a.m. with the laying the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery. Afterwards, inside the Memorial Amphitheater there will be a parade of colors by veterans' organizations and remarks from dignitaries. There are many other celebrations going on to honor the Veterans on November 11, 2010. The Veteran's Administration (VA) has a list of all current events taking place across the United States.
Why We Honor Our Veterans on Veterans Day:
Many corporations have been ignoring the Veterans Day celebrations, which is a Federal holiday, in exchange for letting workers take off the Friday after Thanksgiving to allow all workers to have a four day weekend. While many embrace the notion of a four day weekend, most have forgotten the true meaning of Veterans Day and forget that the freedom enjoyed by US residents was won by the courageous soldiers who have fought to secure our freedom.
When is Veterans Day Observed on the Calendar?
Veterans Day is always celebrated on November 11 or the closest weekday if November 11th falls on the weekend on the calendar. In other words, if November 11th falls on Sunday, Veterans Day will be observed on November 12th. If November 11th falls on a Saturday, then Veterans Day is observed on November 10th.
Whether you are working through Veterans Day or not, stop at 11:00 AM and pray for all of our soldiers and Veterans. Take just a moment to remember what they have sacrificed for you and if you are working beside a veteran; be sure to thank him for his sacrifice.
