US Weekly Puts Words in Sarah Palin's Mouth

Sarah Palin Didn't Say It, and the US Weekly Had to Apologize

This incident just goes to show you that you can't always believe what you read or hear. Sarah Palin gets a lot of publicity as it is, and she says a lot of controversial things. This time, however, she was misquoted in a big way.

US Weekly reported that Sarah Palin slammed Christina Aquilera for her singing of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Many people did not like the way Ms. Aquilera sang the Anthem, and she has received a lot of criticism for it. The US Weekly quoted Sarah Palin as saying she thought Christina Aquilera, "a demanding beauty queen who's clearly in over her head". I'm not the biggest Sarah Palin fan. I don't really care much one way or another about her views, but I would be really surprised for her to make this kind of a remark.

In fact the US Weekly went even further to quote Governor Palin as saying, "If I were president, I'd deport Ms. Augilera back to wherever it is she's from and give Amy Smart a call." This certainly doesn't sound like a statement Sarah Palin would make. The funny thing is the quotes actually came from a radio program that was doing a fake interview between Palin and Shawn Hannity. It was poking fun at Fox News and the governor.

Somebody heard the radio program and believed that it was actually Sarah Palin who was speaking. Those of us who are a bit older remember another famous radio program that people thought was real. It was called "War of the Worlds", and produced some momentary panic when people heard the now famous program. At that time people thought we really were being invaded by aliens.

US Weekly offered an apology. Sarah Palin gets a lot of criticism, but it would be surprising to think that she would ever say anything like what the US Weekly was accusing her of. This is just another example of how you have to be careful about reporting events. You cannot or should not always believe what you hear and see in the media.

Palin says so many nasty and stupid things that it is just believable that she would make comments like that. Only thing is that most of the comments are written up by her speech writers and then she reads them as if they were her own thoughts. She is lazy when it comes to taking any steps towards improving her mind and she doesn't believe in public school education for her own children because they teach things like evolution and sex education and she doesn't want their minds to be cluttered with knowledge. Her children behave poorly in public and are not mental giants so it is best to keep them away from those who are better behaved or more educated. After all, as long as they can hire ghost writers and benefit from plastic surgery and remain fertile, why bother to compete with other contributing members of society?

When I listen to Palin's comments, I sometimes feel as if we have been invaded by an alien.

Glad you pointed out The War of The Worlds. We often forget how out of control we can become by believing what isn't true.

I don't much like Sarah Palin, but she should at least be treated with a modicum of fairness in the media... actions like this go way over the line. Palin should sue them. Excellent report!

Not a fan here either, but this is sad. People really need to look at the facts. :)
