US Winter Olympic Ski Team Dress in Pajamas and Other Observations

Interesting Notes from Week 1 of the 2010 WinterOlympics

Robin Vinci
Have you noticed the 2010 Ski Team's attire? Are they supposed to look like pajamas or am I seeing things? These outfits are horrible for athletes. I must admit the little stars are cute. I would wear that outfit to bed, but I would be horrified to be dressed in it during an international worldwide event. The poor skiers look frozen and like they just got out of bed. Other countries must be laughing at us. Next time designers should include angels and fairies to complete the look.

I enjoy ice skating, but do the ice dancers have to dance exactly the same and to the same music during its short program. After three times, I changed the channel. Who wants to watch the same dance over and over again? Let's skip it and watch the long program.

How is that I have become more interested in curling than skiing? I frantically search the TV remote each day for a curling match. I don't care who is playing who, I have to see it. I bowl, but do not watch bowling. I have golfed, but do not watch it. I play checkers, but have no interest in viewing a live event. What is it about curling? I never watch it except during the Olympics, but I am mesmerized and addicted. Maybe, it comes with old age.

I must tell you I do not watch ice skating, cross country skiing or most Olympics sports at any other time of the year. Why is that after seeing 10 minutes of an event I suddenly become an expert? I find things coming out of my mouth about triple jump quality and getting air under your skis. Yep, I have become an expert and should coach each event. If not, I feel I should at least be a judge. Don't you feel that way too? I know I am not alone. Everyone I talk to is an expert.

Do Canadians really spend their days eating cheese and drinking beer? Every time I watch a food event from Vancouver, it includes cheese and beer. Maybe, that explains why some NBC broadcaster's appear drunk all the time. Find out what real Canadians eat and not just what you want you want to portray.

Another thing I found is all snowboarders think they are on a California beach? The women and blonde haired, blue eyes and the men have long hair and say things like "Dude, what's your hang time?" I like Shaun White as much as anyone else, but what are you doing on snow? Grab your board and go surfin Dude!

When did the United States become so good in winter sports? When I was a kid, we won maybe five medals. Now, we win five a day. How? What? When?

If you ice skate in pairs, 50 percent of the time, your partner will become your spouse. Is it because you spend so much time skating that you see no one else? Or maybe because in some countries the places you touch or are touched by your partner, requires a marriage license.

NBC's great blooper naming Michael J. Fox as the son of Terry Fox is still unbelievable to most. Terry Fox is a Canadian who had cancer lost his leg. He tried to run across the country for awareness but did not make it. Michael J. Fox is a Canadian born actor. The two are unrelated.

Another bad time for NBC is live filming of Shaun White's coach swearing on TV. It happens, but NBC was clearly embarrassed. Those are my observations after week one. Stay tuned for more next week.

Have you also noticed the coach's attire? They wear what looks like a moo moo w/the same star pattern. I'm with you, somebody let someone have too much leeway on THAT one. All they had to do is to show it to their kids.
