US Women's Team Proves Football Not All About Skill, Technique

RDA
Once again, the US women's football team showed us that football is not all about technique and skills. When we look at the Brazilians, they start playing football at early ages and everybody knows that they are the most skilled football players in the world. What they lack is the discipline and the stamina of the U.S. team, as we see today.

Brazilians were the clear favorites before the tournament started but I was pretty sure USA would win the Gold Medal and they didn't disappoint me. USA was the attacking side as the match started and both teams were cautious. It was visible that Brazilian defense would leave some gaps in the following minutes. They were overconfident and not well organized. Brazil midfield also had hard time to pass the ball to their skillful forward Cristiane.

She is a deadly forward in the penalty box. Barbara, the goalkeeper of Brazil got lucky on the 16th minute as the ball that came directly from the corner kick didn't go in the goal. The motivation level of the US defence was on top, as Marta and Cristiane failed to create goal chances. Brazil started the second half with an attacking mentality, looking for the goal that would bring them the Gold Medal.

But it was time for the US goalkeeper to shine. Hope Solo made an amazing save on the 72nd minute. The US team was closing down the Brazilians very well. The last 10 minutes, the Brazilian goalkeeper made two brilliant saves that made the match go overtime. Brazilians were tired and the American's stamina and discipline made them the dominant side in the extra time.

Brazilian players were unable to run a lot and complete passes as they were exhausted. On 97th minute, Lloyd struck the ball so nice and there was nothing the Brazilian goalkeeper could do. Brazilian team failed to create chance in the remaining minutes and Once again the Americans win the Gold medal in a well deserved match.
