As Dempsey was about to be subbed out for Hercules Gomez, the final whistle sounds and the game is over. 45:00 (3:35 pm) - Alright the second half is underway and the English side made another substitution, bringing defender Jamie Carragher on.

HALFTIME! 3:20 pm - USA vs. England tied at 1-1!

Looking at the replay of that US goal, it just looks worse and worse. Really soft, soft goal.

England dominated the first portion of the first half, but the USA started to come on and get some good opportunities, and anything can happen now with the score evened up at halftime.

45:00 - Extra time in the first half now, about three minutes to come. England gets called for being offside. Howard sends the ball back down the other way with a free kick.

39:30 - Dempsey gets an opportunity and sends a strike to the net, Green blocks it but can't hold on and it slowly rolls behind him! USA has tied up the game, 1-1! A shot that should have been stopped for sure, but a good shot and a goal nonetheless. England's goaltending was a big question coming in.

38:00 - Donovan gets a good shot on net that Green dives for. Looked like t could have been good. The problem is when the US attacks, they are always outnumbered. It looked like Donovan had 4 guys around him. On the other end Cherundolo gets a yellow card for downing Wright-Phillips.

33:00 - Back on the other end Howard picks up a loose ball and yells at the defense a bit. He's been mad all day for the way his defense has been playing and leaving him a bit open.

32:00 - Altidore gets a shot on net although it was pretty far out. Green easily grabs it. Donovan is now on the left and Dempsey on the right for the US.

30:00 - Milner gets replaced by Shaun Wright-Phillips on the English side. Tim Howard is still trying to recover, and it seems like he'll stay in net despite the pain.

27:15 - Heskey streaks up the side but can't find anybody with his centering pass. England gets a corner kick, the US deflect it high but England grabs the ball and gets a few more opportunities. Howard needed to dive out to tip the ball and ends up heart on the pitch. Looks like he collided with Heskey, and Heskey's cleat jammed into Howard's arm.

26:15 - Donovan sets up the free kick and Onyewu heads the ball but it floats wide of net.

25:00 - Dempsey gets a shot blocked, and the US gets a free kick when Cherundolo got tripped. Then James Milner of the English side grabs a yellow card for arguing the call.

21:30 - Cherundolo is a busy man so far today, he grabs the ball near the sideline but can't handle it and it heads out of bounds.

19:00 - England gets their own chance right back with a 2 on 1 very close in front of goaltender Tim Howard. Cherundolo was able to intercept the pass. After clearing the ball, Wayne Rooney gets his first piece of the action with a shot slightly wide of net that Howard dived on.

18:00 - Donovan gives an almost perfect pass to Altidore, who has an open look but heads it out of bounds, while Dempsey rushed in and missed the ball as well. Almost a US goal.

16:30 - Onyewu deflects an English pass it was a near hand ball, then the US passes it up the field but too far, beyond the streaking Findley.... 17:15 England gets a free kick after some interference, but the US grabs the ball and Donovan is tripped, so the US side gets a free kick

13:00 - Another corner kick is headed out by England. On the third try Donovan places a short pass to Cherundolo, but he then misses his teammates after being wide open. Missed opportunity.

11:30 - Robbie Findley turns on the jets and almost beats the England defense to a ball trickling down the right side of the field. US corner kick, and England heads it over the net.

9:30 - England sets up a corner kick, and a hand ball stops action . USA sends the ball deep down field and Clint Dempsey gets off a decent header that England goalie Rob Green takes care of.

6:20 - US defender Steve Cherundolo gets tripped and then the USA tries to get together some effective ball movement off the restart. US is having difficulty penetrating the core of England's defense.

3:30 - England just scored, already! Off an in-bounds play, new captain of the team Steven Gerrard takes a quick pass from Emile Heskey and touches the ball past Tim Howard. 1-0 England.

2:00 - Jozy Altidore streaks down the left and tries to center the ball to some teammates. USA doesn't get the ball, tries to regroup and ends up offside.

2:30 pm - Alright, the English side takes the coin toss and gives USA the ball, and the game is underway. From here on out during the game, updates will be given in reference to the game clock.

2:25 pm - According to official stats, there are 8,000 USA fans in attendance, and 6,000 English fans. The national anthems are getting underway

2:20 pm - After some predictions from the pre-match folks we switch from them to our announcers for the game, Martin Tyler and John Harkes. The teams are getting ready to storm out onto the pitch.

2:10 pm - Chronicling the problems with the captaincy of England... David Beckham of course isn't playing due to injury, and was beyond his best years.... John Terry was stripped of the captaincy with personal drama.... Rio Ferdinand was injured during practice and can't play... finally midfielder Steven Gerrard gained the captain's role.

2:00 pm - 30 minutes until game time... Some of the analysts are saying that Onyewu should be tasked to cover Emile Heskey, as opposed to Wayne Rooney, considering his possibly questionable health status. US Coach Bob Bradley though is saying that Onyewu is 100% and good to go... meanwhile we hear that English coach Fabio Capello earns $9 million per season. Wow.

1:50 pm - I hope if you're rooting for the US soccer team then you are drinking some Samuel Adams beer as I am. Couldn't be more appropriate, especially on a hot summer day like it is here in Washington DC...

Keeping track of a few interesting notes and angles here from the pregame... Robert Green is starting at goal for England, and Aaron Lennon gets into the starting lineup as well, in a flank position... McManaman believes that this is England's year to win the World Cup once again...

It looks like a few USA vs. England livestream links have been posted below to watch the game online. But this is still your best place to hang out for some lively commentary and a full-service USA vs. England live blog.

1:30 pm - Alright, the ABC pregame has started, and we get a view of Royal Bafokeng Stadium, outside of Rustenberg, South Africa. USA vs. England starts in about an hour, Mike Tirico and Steve McManaman are at the stadium, and Jeremy Schaap is on the field. Chris Fowler, Alexi Lalas and Ruud Guulit are providing analysis from the booth outside of Soccer City in Johannesburg.

The starting lineup for the US soccer team is provided, and yes, Oguchi Onyewu is starting, so the team must have confidence that he can play a full game at top level, despite the fact that he hasn't done so since October.

12:15 pm - The score remained at 1-0 as Argentina defeated Nigeria. Two hours and closing until USA vs. England kickoff time! Coverage begins on ABC at 1:30 pm.

I am locked and loaded with some food and drink. There could only be one possible beer to drink this afternoon... the patriot himself, Samuel Adams. U-S-A! U-S-A!

10:45 am - South Korea bested Greece 2-0 in the first game of the day, and Argentina is taking a 1-0 lead into halftime over Nigeria. USA vs. England kickoff time is in about 4 hours!

Here are a few story lines to keep in mind as we get ready for USA vs. England kickoff time:

1) Will Wayne Rooney step up on the biggest stage and prove his worth as perhaps the world's best striker?

2) Is the US healthy enough, with starters to key players such as defender Oguchi Onyewu and striker Jozy Altidore?

3) Can the US find enough offense to penetrate the superior all-around team of the English?

4) Perhaps more importantly than Rooney stepping up for England, Landon Donovan needs to step up for the USA. All signs are pointing to Donovan being at the perfect place in his career and life to shine in South Africa. He has to do it for the US to have a chance, so will he help the USA grab a win in the biggest US soccer match perhaps of all time?
