USA Vs. Ghana Game Time and Preview for the Round of 16 World Cup Match
USA Vs. Ghana Preview Offers Rematch of 2006 World Cup Group Game
USA vs. Ghana Kickoff Time
USA vs. Ghana kickoff time is 2:30 pm Eastern on Saturday, June 26. The game will be broadcast live on ABC. The mid-afternoon Saturday USA vs. Ghana game time is ideal for fans trying to tune in and follow the side as they attempt to keep winning and advancing.
USA vs. Ghana Preview
The USA vs. Ghana match represents the pairing of the Group C winner versus the second seed from Group D. Way back when the World Cup draw was announced, the USA had a clearly advantageous alignment. Our side gets to bypass Brazil, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands and Italy until the semifinals. That, in a word, is amazing.
The USA vs. Ghana Round of 16 game is a rematch of their meeting from the 2006 World Cup in the Group stage. Ghana defeated the US that year 2-1, sending the USA home in the first round, a disappointing finish particularly after the US side had played eventual champion Italy to an even 1-1 draw.
Ghana advanced to the Round of 16 this year by ranking ahead of Australia in Group D via the World Cup tiebreaker rules. Even though they lost their final match to Germany, and Australia won their final match against Serbia, Ghana survived because of goal differential stemming from Australia's miserable 4-0 loss against the German side.
According to the last FIFA World Rankings before the 2010 World Cup, the USA was the number 14 team and Ghana was the number 32 team. However, that doesn't tell the fully story, particularly the fact Ghana may end up being the sole African side to advance past the Group stages. Needless to say, it's going to be a Ghanaian crowd come this Saturday.
In the 91st minute of the USA vs. Algeria game, the USA finally put home a goal and in that instant, with less than three minutes left, they moved from an early elimination to the winner of Group C. The stirring goal by USA soccer superstar Landon Donovan was perhaps the most memorable moment in the country's international (men's) soccer history. Winning the group made our slot all the better, enabling us to forego Germany for the time as well, in addition to the other powerhouse teams listed above.
The US soccer team's stated objective for the tournament was to ensure they made it out of the Group stage. That was finally secured, and now that they're in the knockout stages, anything can happen.
Of course, the team will need to ensure they do not fall behind early for a change, and the health of defender Oguchi Onyewu, who missed the Algeria game, is a serious concern. Jozy Altidore has picked up his play and made his presence felt, and Donovan has scored two huge goals in the tournament, living up to his billing as the best USA soccer player of all-time.
Clint Dempsey has had tons of great opportunities, grabbing the lucky goal against England, while also seemingly having a slew of calls go against him. He needs to keep pushing and working those chances to hope for the best. The most solid player on the squad thus far may just be the coach's son, midfielder Michael Bradley, who notched the tying goal in the match against Slovenia. If these big names all show up, and Tim Howard stays stout in net, the USA is not a team to be taken lightly in the Round of 16 World Cup 2010 field.
