USAF Staff Sgt Michelle Manhart Poses for Playboy
The Military Deserves More Respect Than Michelle Manhart's Self-seeking Behavior
Playboy wouldn't have photographed her, or even interviewed her if she had applied as is. Michelle Manhart used her military career to get noticed and in the process dishonored the uniform, which represents honor and integrity.
"This staff sergeant's alleged action does not meet the high standards we expect of our airmen, nor does it comply with the Air Force's core values of integrity, service before self, and excellence in all we do," Oscar Balladares, spokesman for Lackland Air Force Base, said in a statement.
Michelle Manhart knew this going in and shouldn't play the victim, although I believe attention was her ultimate goal.
Apparently, parading around in her airbrushed birthday suit was more important than upholding her military duties; the latter I could respect.
Michelle Manhart is photographed holding the playboy magazine as if it's something to be proud of, but where was her pride for her career? Nudity doesn't take any talent, especially the way Playboy alters imperfections, but attaining a military career and serving one's Country does take a certain amount of talent and she knowingly threw it away for something shallow.
The military should never relax their principles or they will have an awful lot of bad conduct to deal with, which is why said standards are in place. As a woman in a leadership position, Michelle Manhart should have set a proud and upstanding example to others. In other words, Michelle Manhart's behavior was unbecoming conduct for an NCO in the U.S. Armed forces and she knew it, but chose to disrobe for profit, using her military career to do so.

Post a CommentYou know I could care less about what happens to this SSgt. Why because she is an NCO and should be able to take responsibility for her actions. It seems everything we do now has be come (PC) Political correct. I think we all have the right to do what we want but must be able to face the consequences of our actions. Disgrace the uniform well that is a whole different story when you have flag officers doing the same thing. There are allot of ways you can disgrace the uniform, posing nude with the uniform one-way. I have been in the Air force 20 years now and I have seen allot of things that disgrace the uniform. I still wear mine proudly and hoped along the way I haven't done anything to hurt my country or the uniform I wear. Remember one-thing folks we are human and make mistakes not all of us can be righteous all the time. Even though some of us think we are or act like we are.
Very well said Donna
Amen to that Donna!
No one is jealous, and such an attack is predictable, transparent, and unfortunate. Some women, myself included, pride ourselves on class and don't feel the need to bare all in order to receive the shallow attention of the general public. Rather, we share our natural beauty behind closed doors with the one we love, which is special.
I don't know much about what happens when you join the military and I haven't seen the playboy shoot lol. I can only say that if she wore the government's uniform and knew she could be dismissed for both posing and in their uniform on top of it, then she deserves whatever punishment they dished out. I have no problem at all with her posing nude but every action has a consequence and if she knew her actions and the consquences that went with it and still chose to commit those actions then she must also accept the consquences. Maybe she was just trying to get out of the military?
You're missing the point. No one is objecting to nudity; the objection (if you even bothered to read the article) was that she broke the rules, disobeyed orders, broke her commitment to the military, and took the uniform, and used it for selfish reasons; she put self before service. The military invested a lot of money in her. They had a right to respond they way they did. As for the celebrities you mentioned - they weren't in the military - they can parade around all they want because they did NOT agree to higher standards and they did not USE a United States Military Uniform for attention and financial profit.
K Roberts if showing your body is the quick fix now-a-days why was miss nevada stripped of her crown and miss usa forced into rehab? Seems them showing thier bodies didnt solve much...I dont think its a fix to anything...you are focusing on the bad part of women showing skin...think about Tyra Banks she recently showed off her body with her extra weight and looked great and women looked up to her for doing it...so did Kirsty Ally and Jamie Lee Curtis did a photo shoot with little clothes on but refused the touch up...you all are focusing on negatives there are some possitives and no one is bashing Tyra, Kirsty, or Jamie for showing thier stuff they praise them...so why if a woman wants to use it to her advantage you attack her...jealousy? I doubt that is the case but I dont think its fair to judge this woman
She was in the military and agreed to abide by their standards when she signed up; she then broke them. When you're in the military you don't have the "right" to "act of your own accord." She placed self before service and received the appropriate response. If she had done this as a civlian, big deal. As it stands, the military has higher standards for their people, and for VERY good reason as the RESPECT factor is paramount in military service.
I know the military has strict conduct codes. My father is a retired army helicopter pilot of over 25 years, so I've heard about them. She knew what she could and could not do prior to doing the shoot. For that, she is dishonorable for not living up to her word. Especially if she was in a leadership position. If those under her command saw her shoot, it would change the dynamics of the group. However, what sort of double standard is this when a woman is kicked out of the military for posing for pornography while many, many soldiers regularly look at porn or have collections without any sort of punishment? Seems very double standard. Out of curiosity, how can you tell who downrates you? Just by the comment? Or did they say, "Donna I'm downrating you to a one"?
I really love your comment, "Nudity doesn't take any talent, especially the way Playboy alters imperfections...". I am so fed up with the way our society gives attention to women that show off their bodies. I am much more impressed with people that keep their clothes on and still are able to accomplish important things. Using your body to get attention seems to be the quick fix nowadays. I am glad the military took a moral stand and dismissed this girl.
