Usain Bolt Breaks 100-meter and 200-meter Records

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt once again showed the world he is the greatest sprinter of all time. After an astonishing performance at the Olympics in Beijing a year ago, Bolt broke his own world records in both the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints at the World Championships in Berlin.

Usain Bolt ran a 19.19 second 200m just four days after running a lightning-quick 9.58 in the 100m dash. He shattered his world records by .11 seconds in each race. At the Beijing Olympics last year, Bolt set the then world records of a 9.69 100-meter dash and a 19.30 200-meter dash. Panama's Alfonso Edward finished in 2nd place in the 200-meter race, running a 19.81 while the United States' Wallace Spearman came in 3rd, running a 19.85. Shawn Crawford, also of the United States, finished fourth in 19.89. After a false start by France's David Alerte, Bolt broke out to a fast lead right away and never looked back. With his lengthy figure striding around the turns, Bolt seemed to be almost jogging compared to the other sprinters in the race. His main competition and last years World Champion, Tyson Gay, did not race due to an injury.

Usain Bolt broke the 200-meter record on the eve of his 23rd birthday. He is known for his flashy style and clowning around he does before and after he races. He has established himself as the premier sprinter and one of the most exciting athletes to watch in the world.

Bolt was quoted as saying, "I definitely showed people that my world records in Beijing were not a joke." He also was casting doubt upon his own self before the World Championships started by saying he was not in the same shape as he was in his record-breaking performances in Beijing. Turns out he was in even better shape and blew the competition away just as he did in the Olympics.

Fellow sprinter Shaw Crawford was in awe of Bolt, saying, "Just coming out there, I'm just waiting for the lights to flash 'game over,' 'cause I felt like I was in a video game."

"I am on my way to become a legend", Bolt said smiling.

To me, Usain Bolt is already a legend and I find it hard to think anybody in the world can come close to competing with this freak of nature. He is the most exciting athlete to watch and continues to amaze everybody who gets to see him run. With Bolt, the sky is the limit and I look forward to seeing more from this great athlete.
