You should analyze as many of the interactions and transactions you have with customers as you can, whether you are mostly successful or mostly failing. If you do this, you can get a better idea of what you did right with the customers who make a purchase and come back and you can get a clearer idea of what you did wrong in regard to losing a sale. If a customer storms out of the store or abruptly hangs up while you talk with him or her over the telephone, the chances are high you did something wrong.
It is helpful to learn what is going on in your industry. One reason is it will help you see how you could do better. Also, becoming informed and talking to others in your field can help you learn from the mistakes others in your field have made and leave you saying, "So this is what I have been doing wrong. I thought I had been doing everything the right way."
Once you have a job interview, you should follow up. If the person who met with you tells you they have decided not to hire you, you must ask why. If you do, you can leave a good impression that says you are interested in doing better. Furthermore, this can give you the opportunity to plead your case. For example, if you are told you were not hired because you do not have enough related experience, you can reply, "If you are patient with me and give me a chance, I can learn the job quickly and show what an asset I can be."
You should teach others the mistakes you have made in the business world. This can help you stay on your toes in addition to aiding others.
It is beneficial to put a positive spin on your shortcomings. A good thing you can tell yourself is: "This setback has obviously occurred for a good reason and it is up to me to make good use of it."
You should laugh at your mishaps, especially the less harmful ones. This can brighten your mood and make it easier to quickly put your blunders behind you.
Whether you do something that negatively affects your boss or negatively affects your customers, it is vital to apologize to them and repent. This can improve your standing and show how you realize what you have done wrong while trying to make sure it does not happen again.
Although you must keep in mind your blunders, it is mandatory to not dwell on them. Dwelling on the past too much is counterproductive.
If possible, you should seek feedback from your customers, boss and co-workers. This is a great way to truly gauge what you are doing right and wrong.
You have learned ways to learn from business failures and mistakes.
