Glycerin soaps are super easy to create and make lovely gifts for any occasion.

If you want to add a special touch of personal pizzazz, look no further than your sewing basket. Buttons add delightful interest and texture to simple glycerin soap shapes and can be customized to match any bathroom or kitchen color and pattern.

Let your imagination run wild and your button soaps will be quite the conversation piece!

Materials:

Melt and Pour Glycerin Soap (Clear)
Soap Fragrance (Any)
Soap Coloring (Any Color)
2-4 medium-size or large Buttons
Soap Mold (Any shape that has a flat surface)

Optional- White Pearl Powder

Tools:

Microwave
Glass Measuring Cup
Metal or Wood Spoon
Scissors
Paring Knife

Instructions:

Using microwave, glass measuring cup, and clear glycerin soap, follow instruction on glycerin soap package to melt the proper amount for your soap mold.

Add a few drops of selected fragrance to melted glycerin soap. Stir with spoon until fully mixed.

Add color, one drop at a time, and stir with spoon until fully mixed. Repeat until you achieve color effect desired. (Tip- if you are using dark colored buttons, you will want to keep the soap color a very light pastel, or the buttons may not show through clearly.)

Optional- Mix in a small pinch of white pearl powder to give soap a shimmer effect.

Pour a thin layer of soap into the mold, just enough to cover the entire bottom of the mold. Place button(s) in desired position. Button front must be facing downward toward the bottom of the mold. Let set for 30 seconds.

Gently pour remainder of soap into mold. The buttons will "float" up a bit, this is okay, the buttons will show clearly through the soap. You do not want the buttons too close to the surface as they may form air pockets and the end result will not be as attractive.

Allow soap to cool per directions on the glycerin soap package.

Once the soap has cooled completely, remove the soap from the mold by applying even pressure to the back and sides of the mold until the soap slips out of the mold. Sculpt (trim) edges of soap with a paring knife.

Soap is now ready for packaging and gifting!

Ideas:

  • Use apple buttons, light green glycerin coloring, and apple scent for a fun-tabulous teacher gift.
  • Use snowflake buttons, light blue glycerin coloring, white pearl powder, and vanilla for a classy holiday gift.
  • Use seashell buttons, a sandy-tan glycerin coloring, white pearl powder, and coconut scent for a cool summer give-a-way.
  • Use baby buttons, a pink or blue glycerin coloring, and baby powder scent for unique baby shower favors.
