It used to be that eBay was just a place to list your auctions, but now it's turned into a huge community where buyers and sellers alike can gather and share their thoughts on a blog. Blogs are very active on eBay and it's very common to get comments on a post within minutes of publishing - that's because updated blogs are featured on the front page of the eBay blogs site.
Why is eBay a good place to start a blog? Here are three reasons:
1. eBay brings in millions of visitors a day. Need I say more?
2. eBay is a site that the search engines trust, so any links that you include in a blog post that leads to an auction or your store will be considered as quality links.
3. Blog posts have the potential to show up on the front page of the search engines.
To get started with an eBay blog, all you have to do is fill out a one page form. If you already have an eBay account as a buyer or seller, all you have to do is sign in with your username and password.
Before you write your first blog post, you'll have to think of a title for your blog. Next, you'll enter a description of your blog and add keyword tags that will help people find your blog. The more detailed you are in your description, the more targeted traffic you will get to your blog and your auctions - that is, if your blog posts are related to your auction items. You also have the options to upload an avatar for your blog or customize the look and feel of your blog using a specific theme.
From my experience, I've found that eBay blogs generally get more traffic than other new blogs that I have created. However, do remember that just because you started a blog and have written one post, it doesn't mean that you'll have instant traffic. Follow these blogging tips to maximize the traffic from search engines and eBay visitors:
1. Post consistently and regularly. Whenever you publish a post on an eBay blog, your article will show up on the home page of eBay Blogs. If you post often (I recommend at least once a day), the more traffic you will get to your blog.
2. Write articles that are useful and valuable to blog readers. Provide news, helpful tips, and resources that are related to products or services that you sell in your eBay store or on your website.
3. Post comments on other blogs. The beauty of blogging is that you can add your comments and participate in conversations with other bloggers.
Starting and maintaining a blog on eBay does require a little bit of work, but it is an excellent source of targeted free traffic to your auctions or website if you stay focused!
