Losing weight on an elliptical trainer can be fun and very effective in losing weight and meeting your fitness goals. As a matter of fact, many people who do not enjoy typical exercise find using an elliptical easy, fun and motivational. I am definitely one of those people. I am not anywhere near Mrs Marathon runner of the year or anything close to it. When I exercise I like it to feel, well like I am not exercising. Having this mentality has led me to try almost everything imaginable to lose weight - exercise wise. I tried the belt that shocks your abs and all, but nothing gave me results better than the elliptical!
I even owned a tread mill which was big , bulky, loud, and was a pain to use. I eventually replaced my treadmill with my elliptical and was surprised at the difference. The first thing you will notice when using an elliptical exercise machine is the easy range of motion. As you glide back and forth you are working your whole body, from arms to legs! The elliptical motion should feel smooth, and not feel like a jerky pull, as some poorly made ellipticals will transpire. The motion will make you feel like you're not putting out a lot of energy, but man- just wait a few minutes and you'll be surprised at how your body reacts!
Although using an elliptical is very simple, I must warn you you will get tired quicker than normal at first. For example, while on my treadmill, I would exercise for twenty minutes at a session. I would typically burn 140-180 calories and my hair line would have sweat around it. I would be out of breath and ready to quit at approximately fourteen minutes into the exercise routine, which is when I felt the "burn" and would make it to twenty minutes and stop. However, while on my elliptical, I can barely make it up to fourteen minutes! By five minutes into the workout I am sweating and breathing hard. I still do twenty minutes, but only the first five don't include "the burn" and when I am done, I burned about 280-300 calories!
Ellipticals burn more calories by engaging more areas of your body at once. I highly encourage you to use an elliptical with built in exercise routines. Ellipticals with built in exercises are the best at getting you into shape. Most ellipticals do not need to be plugged in, but rather use batteries and magnetic resistance. Elliptical exercise machines are very quiet and ideal for individuals seeking to lose weight in an apartment or for use while baby is napping. I lost all my baby weight and then some using my elliptical machine. I am actually the thinnest I have been since having kids (I have three boys as of now) and enjoy my exercise routine. you can lose weight very quickly an easily with good eating habits and an elliptical as your main source of exercise.
A few tips are to start of slow on the elliptical. Try exercising only as long as your body feels comfortable, and slowly add minutes to your routine as your body adjusts to the elliptical. Drink plenty of water before and after using your elliptical. You will work up a sweat and replacing those lost fluids helps prevent dehydration. It is important to stay motivated and keep using you're elliptical weekly. Once you make using your elliptical equipment on a regular basis you will enjoy the benefits of continues weight loss and improved fitness thanks to the elliptical machine! One more tip - stop using it as a coat hanger! I say that because I too was guilty of that for a while, but once I saw how important my elliptical was to my weight loss success, I regretted the days I tossed clothes on it!
