Use Google Videos to Find Free Educational Videos for Homeschool

My children enjoy watching videos that go along with their homeschool studies. So, I'm frequently searching for educational movies. I have covered how I get free educational videos using the Internet Archive. The other site that I use is Google Videos.

Why Google Videos is My First Choice for Free Educational Videos
By searching for videos on Google I am actually searching on numerous websites that contain videos at the same time. The searches pull of videos form You Tube, Vimeo, Hulu, and many other sites. This saves me the time and effort of having to search on several video sites for free educational videos. Also on Google Videos, I can easily narrow my search by the length of the video, quality, or source.

How to Find Videos
Go to Google Videos. Type in the subject you are looking for. Let's use "Galileo" as our search term. You'll get many returns on your search. If I'm having trouble finding a good video then I"ll narrow my search down by choosing Google.com as the video source. The reason I do this is because I tend to find more quality videos that way.

Once I change the source, a two part series from Nova comes up. My son watched the series in 30 minute increments over a 4 day period. The video complimented the the lesson from the free World History textbooks that we are using this year. If that series had been two long then I could have selected a shorter duration to search for. But other than the source, I like to keep the searches quite broad. That way I don't potentially miss a good video because I was too restrictive with my search parameters.

Keeping Track of the Movies
Once I find a suitable video, I list the exact title of the movie in my lesson plan with a "G" next to it, for Google Videos. That way my son or I can find the video easily when it's time to view it. I also list the movie by subject under the Free Movies for Homeschool section at CookiesDomain.com. This way when my next child gets to that subject I will not have to search for videos all over again.

It's a Good Investment of Time
My family has utilized paid sites that stream educational videos before. However, there are a plethora of free educational videos available online that can be found just by spending some time doing searches on Google Video.
