This little fruit has some of the best oil you can use for eating and cooking, but they can also be eaten as either black olives or green olives.

I'm sure you know that olive oil is fragrant and edible, and is made by crushing and pressing olives. But did you know that as far back as 3300 B.C., it was being traded by the Aegean Island villagers to Crete and Greece.

And that around 165 B.C.E., it was claimed that for 8 days, in the temple of Jerusalem, a jar of olive oil burned. Apparently this so amazed the Jewish army that had taken the city back from Syria, that Chanukah, a Jewish holiday is now being celebrated in honor of this wonder.

You'll love this! Apparently women in ancient Greece and Egypt were told they could use olive oil as a contraceptive. I wonder how long it took them to realize it didn't work. Olive oil is amazing, but it's not that amazing!
