For starters, the best plantar wart removal treatment is over the counter medication. There are several over-the-counter options available to you. The most common types are the salicylic acid or silver nitrate-based medications. These plantar wart removal medications are readily available at your local pharmacy. They come in two applications (adhesive tape and diluted solutions) and include instructions for their use and application.
Using salicylic acid-treated adhesive pad is easy. Simply cut a short length of the adhesive tape and cover over your plantar warts. This plantar wart removal treatment should be done regularly for a certain period of time. When changing the adhesive tape, wash the affected area, and dab it dray before putting on a fresh length of tape. This ensures that your plantar wart does not have a moist environment to spread on. A diluted solution of salicylic acid is another option you could use. Both this solution and silver-nitrate medication may have specific instructions based on the size and severity of the wart growth. Do not hesitate to ask for advice from your local pharmacist, or family doctor, to use these plantar wart removal medications in their fullest effect. Applying these medications requires a strict regimen over a period that could take anywhere from two to three weeks, to even six months. So be diligent and patient in treating your wart.
Another plantar wart removal treatment you can go for is prescribed medication. There are three types of wart medication that you can choose from: Imiquimod, Podophyllin and Podofilox. Imiquimod is a highly recommended plantar wart removal medication that most doctors prescribe to patients who are suffering from warts. What Imiquimod does is stimulate your body's natural immune system to respond and attack the plantar warts on your body, and the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) that caused it. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) has several sub-types, or viral strains, that account for the different kinds of wart that affect nearly 40% of all people around the world. Several of these viral strains are responsible for causing plantar warts.
Podophyllin and Podofilox, on the other hand, are two plantar wart removal medications that are applied externally, as well. Like Imiquimod, they are applied on and around the area affected by the plantar wart. There are specific instructions for application, depending on the severity and area infected by the plantar wart, so be sure to consult your doctor before proceeding. Another warning: Be careful not to use when using these two when you are pregnant or expecting pregnancy. These plantar wart removal medications are absorbed into your skin and can cause severe birth defects in your unborn child. Stick to other plantar wart removal treatments when you are on the way -- or when you suspect that you could be expected pregnancy.
Follow the instructions for applying any of these plantar wart removal treatments. These treatments strong and chemically-based; use too much and you just might injure healthy skin and tissue along with your wart. Exercise caution, and always, consult your pharmacist -- or better yet, your doctor. Attempting these treatments without proper understanding of the instructions, or not following your doctor's advice could only make your wart worse.
There have been some cases that plantar wart may last for years, or even a lifetime. And don't be surprised to know that plantar warts can recur. To prevent this, be sure to stick to your plantar wart removal treatment so that you can get rid of your wart sooner and faster.
