If you want to introduce colors to children under five you need to make it exciting. Children under five love to learn new things and experiment. Teaching children colors at early age, would help them get a head start in school. Here is a perfect activity that you could do with your child. This activity helps observe and experiment with different colors. This activity for sure would have the child interested, and experimenting.

What you need for this activity is ten clear plastic cups, ten plastic spoons, and paper towels. You also need food coloring that contains blue, red, yellow, and green food coloring. You would need a small amount of tape. The reason you need tape is because you need to write the colors in each cup. Be sure to cover the table with paper. This activity could get messy.

Fill all ten clear plastic cups with water. Have your child drop one food coloring into a clear plastic cup. When a child does this write the color outside the cup. Be sure to tell your child the color that is inside the clear plastic cup. Let your child dropped the rest of the food coloring into the rest of the cups. You should have the four different coloring plastic cups. When you are finished tell them the name of the color in each cup and write it on the cup.

When finish teaching your child the four colors, you could create additional colors. You could create purple, orange, green, lime green. To create purple you would need to mix blue and red. To create orange you will need to mix red and yellow. To create green you will need to mix yellow and blue. To create lime green you will need to mix yellow and green. There are other colors you could create. You just need to experiment. Let your child mix colors, and if they do not know the color help them out.

You could also make lighter colors. For example, mix a lot of water with small amount of food coloring. To make pink add more water to the cup and add small amount of red food coloring. While you are watching the color change, ask your child what is going on. If they cannot respond, tell them what is going on. You be the teacher and explain the process of what is happening.
