Over the years we have built up a huge reserve of data and information that we are not even aware of. However, our subconscious mind is very well aware. You have to build the bridge from your conscious mind to your subconscious mind.
Close your eyes. Imagine the situation happening. Describe in detail what you see. Describe everything . Describe what and who you see. The sound you hear such as the bird chirping or the people talking. Hear them. Describe the accent. Describe what you smell. Feel the wind or the scorching sun.
Note that you MUST NOT interrupt your flow of thoughts. You must let them flow. Take the details as they appear before your eyes. Make sure that all these are getting recorded; either you image stream in front of a live second person or you image stream to a tape recorder. It is essential as this would help you reinforce your thoughts.
As you go through image streaming, you are awakening your subconscious mind. You are working all parts of your brain. Left and Right. Your brain is mapping information to and from multiple storage areas. You are reducing the gap between you conscious and subconscious mind. This is a combination of Socratic and Einsteinian methods.
Socratic Method states that you get more of what you reinforce. As you focus on the image stream and describe aloud what you are seeing to the finest detail to the best of your ability, you are reinforcing the image. You are magnifying it. Hence, you are able to describe more and more of it. Einsteinian method asks you to let your visual and mental imagery loose, observe and see what you can discover from there. Also known as the "Deep Thought" technique. This is what you are doing when you let your imagination flow without interrupting it.
Initially, as you start, find a quiet place with your partner or your tape recorder. This will help you to focus and not be interrupted. It could be a park, beach or even your bathroom. Pick an item that you want to describe. Do not restrict yourself in detailing only things that you think are right. Speak whatever comes to your mind. Go into the details. Do not pause to collect your thoughts. After which, ask your partner how you did or listen to your tape.
At first you may not see much result but as you practice you will realize that you are much more at ease and that your success graph is increasing, hopefully exponentially. Once you have the Socratic method at your thumb, let your imagination run wild.
Also try the method of interrupting your thoughts. I am not sure if this method has been researched upon. However, I try this method with most of the situations that I am faced with. The success is paramount. This is slightly advanced as you are deliberately changing the situation according to your wishes. Try putting things into your imaginary space. Try adding new characters. Try saying exactly what you want to say. Word it, reword it. Change the sentence structure. Play with your images. This is reliving the experience in an entirely different setting. It helps you come up with alternatives.
Imagine yourself in an argument with your teenage daughter. You have been a teenager before and you can very well know what kind of rebuttals to expect. Imagine the scene of the confrontation. Imagine it happening right in front of your eyes. Run this scene over and over and you will find yourself coming up with so many alternative ways of dealing with the confrontation. Imagine what you are going to say and say it. Imagine the reply of your teenager. Make sure you hear it. See her behave. Describe her body language. Describe your body language. Imagine the ending and the calm after. Or even an ending that could go wrong. As you do this, you are getting prepared. You are planning to win. Or, you are planning to make your teenager see reason and into agreeing with you. Now imagine a scene of your annual meeting in the boardroom. The possibilities are endless.
Should you have a problem at hand that you are afraid to face, you can try this. This will help you visualize the scenario as it is happening and help you get prepared . You will be able to put yourself in the situation and face the problem and come up with solutions. This is done in your subconscious mind and as you work out the details you will feel that you are not afraid to face the situation anymore.
Always remember, failing to plan is planning to fail.
