The Lost Art of the Thank You Note
Consider the benefits of a simple note:
1. A chance to be in front of your client a second time after they leave .
2. Increases the likelihood of receiving 'word of mouth' business.
3 .Thank you notes aren't always a thank you; sometimes they just offer a personal touch in an impersonal society.
How do you introduce the idea of sending notes?
1. Avoid typed 'form letter' notes, there is nothing personal about them.
2. Write up several basic notes for your employees to use.
3. Set a goal of 10 per week per employee.
Make it fun for your staff:
Many companies overlook the benefits of a simple gesture of sending a note to a customer. In the banking and finance company this was once a requirement that has long since gone by the wayside replaced with a thank you form letter.
Some simple examples of notes to get you started:
1. Thank you so much for meeting with me today. I enjoyed chatting with you about your accounts and look forward to helping you in the future.
2. I'm sorry I wasn't able to help you locate ______ when you were here this afternoon. I didn't realize we didn't carry that product. I've let my supervisor know and if we are able to carry that in the future I will call you.
Your company will shine in your community. You will be teaching your employees a valuable lesson in building customer loyalty as well as everyday courtesy. Each customer will look forward to the excellent service and care that they receive from your company and will refer family and friends.
