Whether you are going on a round the world trip or popping round the corner to see a friend, your travelling cot is always going to be a simple way to give your baby a familiar environment and a comfortable place to sleep but what about when you are at home?
First and foremost the travel cot is a form of cot and does not only have to be used outside the home. For the first six months of your babies life it is recommended that they sleep in your own bedroom with you as the carbon dioxide that you breath out at night can help them if they are having respiratory problems. Also, it is easier to access your baby should they need you if they are in the same room with you, especially if you are breastfeeding.
As is it not always possible or practical to put a baby's full sized cot into your room, the travel cot is an ideal alternative to give your baby comfort and protection as they sleep. This eliminates the need for you to buy a moses basket and therefore reduces the cost of all the equipment you need to buy your baby by a sizeable chunk.
If you have a travel cot with a bassinet, then it is actually physically beneficial to you and the baby to use this during the first months of their life. As you recover from pregnancy and giving birth, your body is at risk of strain and by using the bassinet element of your travel cot rather than the standard cot you can place your baby into his cot a lot easier and do not have to strain over the side to reach down into the bottom of the cot. The bassinet is also a lot smaller than a standard cot with softer sides, making it a more gentle introduction to sleeping in a cot for your baby, rather than going straight into a standard cot.
And a travel cot doesn't have to be used solely at night.
During the day when your baby has to go for a light sleep, a travel cot is a great place to put them to sleep so that you can keep an eye on them and so that you don't have to rush to their room whenever the baby needs attention. By putting the cot where you are going to be, you can make sure you get some rest as well and your baby is safe and secure with you near by.
It is also suggested that a baby who sleeps too heavily during the day will not be able to differentiate between day and night and may therefore take longer to sleep through the night and give up his day time sleeps. By placing your baby in their travel cot in a lighter room during the day, you are making sure they get their sleep but are still aware when the big night time sleep in coming.
And when you are not using your travel cot for sleeping it makes an ideal safe and secure play pen for your baby. When you want to do chores that may be harmful to your baby such as cleaning the floor, or you want to keep your baby near you but protected or contained a travel cot is idea. Quick and easy to erect, you can place your baby into his travel cot with some toys and they can happily lie or sit and play. And with the mesh sides, you can see and talk to your baby and they can see you while you are both confident that your baby is safe and happy.
So next time you think about packing your travel cot away, think again, by using travel cots around the house not only are you getting better value for money on the cost of the cot but you can also make your life so much easier.
