Use Wisely Your Valueable Things

Melissa Bickel
Everyday we are faced with decisions. We're living in a time where more emphasis seems to be put on acquiring valuable material things. This can be daunting, especially for those who have so little to begin with. The choices made can affect those in the family, how one conducts him/herself at work, how one is perceived as a person and more importantly how ones faith is affected by their thoughts regarding valuable things. So how does one find the proper balance in their views? Below are ten suggestions one might consider regarding valuable things and how they can be used wisely.

While these ten most valuable things may vary from person to person, one who's inclined to implement a few of these ideas in their own life while searching out other positive steps, he/she could be living a happier and more meaningful life. Wisdom comes from implementing what we already have and using those things to help not only self, but family and the world.

1. One of the most valuable thing a person has is their "Power Of Reason". A human has this wonderful gift which no other living creature on earth has. Power of reasoning can move a person in their daily life to do and accomplished exceptional things. One of those exceptional things is working good towards others. This can be expressed in the way of kindness, offering gifts of mercy, and doing unto others as you'd want done to self.

2. Another valuable thing we can possess in a positive way is "Faith". Faith according to Dictionary.com has many definitions. Could be a confidence or trust put in a person or thing. The obligation of loyalty or fidelity to a person, promise, engagement, etc. More importantly the trust in God and in His promises as made through Christ and the Scriptures by which humans are justified or saved.

Faith gives us the ability to see what is important in life whether religious or not. Our sense of what is valuable seems to center around the emotional and physical things of self and others, rather than the material things that lead to senseless selfishness. There's nothing wrong with acquiring material things, but it's why they are acquired, if they're needed, and how one goes about acquiring them.

3. What more valuable thing could a person have than their "Life"? Living a life wisely shows appreciation for this magnificent gift bestowed upon mankind. When one lives their life wisely they can move in directions which not only help them, but influences other to do the same. One wouldn't squander life by taking unnecessary risk, like being involved freely in things which puts ones life in danger. If one values their life they'll cherish it and take good care of it.

4. "Knowledge" is a valuable thing which wisely can be nurtured and grown. Acquiring the knowledge on how to do things can have a far greater future value to self and others in doing something worth while in life and just not having certain material possessions. While having material possessions is nice, it's the accumulation of unnecessary material things where knowledge is lacking.

Building the knowledge of higher learning can have positive results and be beneficial. This knowledge can be put to use according to whatever skills a person learns. Knowledge can move a person to learn about different ways to feed mankind. Knowledge can cause someone to designs homes and buildings which don't require use of earth's natural resources. Knowledge hopefully will move man to realize that world peace can be accomplished if they take self out of the equation and insert God.

Not to be overlooked then is the knowledge which comes from learning about God. This knowledge moves Christians to bring comfort and hope to people who despair. It helps to save lives with the knowledge of God's truth. Knowledge helps one to build hope, faith, and belief in a higher being who has the solutions to all of mankind's problems.

5. Another valuable thing we can possess is "Talent". For some it could be a literal talent, but the talent meant here is the talent to do something which impacts another. A person might have the talent of compassion or a listening ear. These tender talents have wonderful effects on family, friends and strangers. Whatever talent a person possesses, when used unselfishly it has positive effects on others.

6. While we have in our possession "Time" we should use it to promote peace and well-being. From the moment we enter this world our time starts ticking away. While we have the opportunity we should find ways to be productive with our time. A lazy person doesn't value their time and thus before they know it, it seeps away without much fulfillment and happiness in their life. Using time wisely means we'll work at being productive, whether this is at work, with family or with others.

7. "Hope" is another valuable possession we can own. Hope moves us to believe in something. It moves us to see the good in situations and not bad. Hope moves us on to faith and the Bible assures us that "Faith is the assured expectation of things Hoped for". Hope gives us a reason to extend a helping hand to others who need positive assurances in their lives.

8. While "Money" is a valuable asset, even a necessity to live, it doesn't always bring true happiness if sought after in selfish way. So what role should money play in ones life? Money should be used to care for the needs of ones family, even in helping to take care of the needs of those who are in want. Money can have an effect on a person emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Money should never be the master of ones desires, but should be the tool used to care for and provide for family, others, and God.

9. Samuel Johnson says of "Friendship", "If a man does not make new acquaintance as he advances through life, he will soon find himself left alone. A man, Sir, should keep his friendship in constant repair." No better words to live by than those. Friendship is indeed a valuable thing a person would want to possess.

The gift of friendship helps to soothe the highs and lows one experiences in life. When we seed friendships, we plant a garden of different blooms which each bring us joy and while no two friendships might be the same, friendships are what fills those voids of emptiness one may experience when one has no family to speak of. So having friends means, we ourselves would need to be a friend.

10. A final valuable thing we can possess and use wisely is "Laughter". Laughter heals the soul. When a child laughs it moves a person to experience the innocence of life. A child's laugh shows no hatred, hypocrisy, or ill will. By learning to utilize laughter the way a child does could potentially soothe wrongs and make matters straight. Laughter could possibly be the tool which moves all to world peace.

Mark Twain says about laughter, "The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter".
