Usedom: Island Between Two Different Cultural Worlds

Usedom is one of the most unique islands in the Baltic Sea region of Europe. Strategically located between two nations yet maintaining its own identity has been the key to this island's longevity. With Germany on the left of this minute island and Poland to the right for as long as it has been in existence, the island of Usedom has been somewhat torn between their ability to be Usedom and their location set at boarders of two very different countries and customs.

A happy medium of sorts has been achieved over the decades lending to what is a very fascinating and exciting region of the world to make a unique if not adventurous holiday spot. The island is ideal for holiday makers wanting to experience the best of both German and Polish worlds under one sky. The accessibility to the island is second to none. Touring the island could not be easier with eager and knowledgeable tour guides sharing in the pride they feel towards the history of their island due to its special location.

Its exact locale is at the north of German with most of the island under German district of Ostvorpommern in the Federal State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ownership. However, the eastern side including the city of Swinoujscie in considered to be apart of the Polish West Pomeranian Viovodeship. While this all may seem just a little confusing it in fact has become what makes this tiny island so full of charm and mystic.

With a population of 76,500 on the German side 31,500 and 45,000 on the Polish side the opportunity to experience the best of both nations is undeniably there for the taking. The two cultural backgrounds harmonize within the borders of this island bringing with it such a remarkable essence of duel culture beauty. This has indisputably made Usedom a hot spot for both German and Polish holidaymakers.

Acres and acres of breathtaking water front landscape and beaches seem to expand and swell with every new visitor to the island everyday. Seaside towns like Zinnowitz and Heringsdorf are special favorite locales for German's and international travelers looking to experiences the wonders of this versatile island. Tourist hot spots include ancient castles and historical villages. The hinterland features nature reserves for the general public to observe.

The convenience of being able to enter into Poland or German without long journey time during your stay in Usedom especially makes this an amazing island to explore when planning your next holiday.
